Pop out windows

Hi to all,
I own a 1982 mexican Beetle and I wish to substitute the actual rear windows with the pop out windows. There is anyone that could say to me if this substitution is possible? Here in Italy are too vague... :cry

Yes you should be able to substitute your standard windows for popouts (late model with the latch that goes through the glass). There are companies that repro them new, or you can pick them up from ebay. Fortuantely for you the late ones are cheaper than earlies so you shouldn't be too out of pocket.

If the screw holes for the hinges aren't drilled into the body already, you may have to do this but its not that hard - just measure up carefully!

Did the mexican Beetles have the large glass??

South Africian Beetles didn't....

Not sure about Brazillian ones either....

I can't find My book with all the info....

As far as I know there are only two options,
the early glass and the late glass....

USA & Europe had the Late glass in 1965 in German Beetles.

Here is a pic of a 1977 Brazillian Beetle... brochure...

It has the small glass.... in the door and on the sides..

Windscreen & rear window may be large????

Mexican may be the same....

This is why He cannot find the answer in Italy...

I'have found something interesting on the log book of the car. It says "Volkswagen 11 D 11 1979 Model". I think that it will be similar to German models, even if it was built in Mexico

Volkswagenwerk let individual VW factories in foreign countries, do a lot of weird things... that are NOT the same as German made VWs.....

Australia had small glass until 1968 model beetles..
Germany had small glass until 1965 model beetles..

Brazillian & Mexican Beetles had many differences....

I measured My late 1968 window and the glass is 337mm High at its highest point...
and the glass is 673mm long at the longest point....

My windows have new rubbers, so the measurements may be slightly different to original vw rubbers.

If You have the smaller early model glass, the measurements would be much smaller....

1988 Mexican Beetles had ALL Large glass

I just found a pic of a New 1988 Mexican Beetle
and all the windows are large.....

so I assume Your 1982 Mexican Beetle would have the larger late model glass....
1965>on German cars....

Best of Luck
