Hi Jay,
All you have to do is go to a automotive paint shop and quote the paint number. Just work out the quantity (500ml would be good) and what sort of
paint (2k or acrylic). I did the same recently with acrylic and it turned out sweet.

I don't think 500 mL will be quite enough... This is for my entire car
Ok, my real concern is to do with what colour the paint comes out now, compared with what colour it would have been when it was first produced - in
terms of the bases changing etc.
I won't be actually buying the paint, the guys who are doing my resto will be, but I need to know the best way to get the right colour.

You could be chasing L82 pearl white? (I dunno much about beetles though....)
If you want mixed from code go to a Glasurit distributor and they can ring head office for the formula if they don't have it to hand.
Glasurit took over Glasso who were the orig manufacturers of VW paint - Glasurit have formulas with modern paints to match the orig- - reasonably
pricey and 2 pac or 2 stage only though (so it will look 'hard' and 'bright'...

Hey guys, sorry, I subterfuged this post. It WAS about the colour for steering wheels etc, but since I was going to start a thread about car colours
anyway, I have side tracked it a little.
The colour I actually need is Polar White Dulux colour 6030 VW colour 1.3.904
My panel beaters will be getting the paint from their distributors, which aren't Glasurit... so I don't know how they will go with the
colour. Will just have to see what they say.
Going to visit tomorrow - I think they will have primer on!!!! *big grin*

Dont be satisfied with them just saying it is correct colour. Make them prove to you with out any doubt that this is the exact colour that came out as
original.
Nay I'm joking they 'll do what they want., Keep you in the dark and promise the world...gee I have a poor attitude sometimes.

They are going to get it mixed then confirm with me that it is right before they paint.

Paint Code ARGHH!
OK, time to bite the bullet. I got a call last night from the guys saying they got a sample of the paint mixed up, and it looks wrong. Went down to
have a look, and its very yellow.
How can I tell what it SHOULD look like? Keeping in mind its a Dulux colour code, Dupont paint, and 37 year old colour on anything original I find to
compare with...
HELP!
Not sure what to do next...
They'e given me a bit on a piece of metal to look at, but how do I know what is RIGHT!?

You sound desperate Jay!
When I did my Beetle, I chrome-plated my steering column tube, gearstick and handbrake so I didn't have to worry about the paint colour of those
parts. I guess the seat runners would also be the same colour though.
Can someone lend you a handbrake lever or gearstick in reasonable condition - that is, with some original paint on it? Polish it up with some cutting
compound to bring back the original colour. Then take it down to the paint shop.
Go through the little paint chip samples in their books and see what matches. I would start with the Dulux catalog, as they provided the paint for
Australian-made VWs. I would imagine a grey-ivory sort of colour would be what you would be looking for. If nothing in the Dulux catalog seems to
match, try one of the other brands.
You have the same sort of dilemma as Richie Benaud - the cream, the white, the off-white, the bone, the ivory or the beige?

Thanks for the reply - it was actually the colour of my car that I was stressing about, not the handbrake/steering column etc. BUT... they called
Dulux in Sydney, got a different code (not sure how that works- why the one they had was wrong *shrugs*) got a new sample pot mixed... and I approved
it last night. Pheeww! Looks good now.
Just have to wait for them to slap it on hehehehe

Hi Jay,
Sorry, thought you were still stressing about the interior colour. I suppose the confusion can arise when Dulux or VW Aust updated (changed) a colour
but still gave it the same name. I found out when I did my Beetle that there were several 'Ruby Reds'. The later one used on some Type 3s
was browner than the earlier one used on Beetles. Perhaps it's the same with some of the whites.
Would just love to come down and have a few red cordials with you. Will depend on whether I can get the Kombi's rear cabinets made and installed
by then. I'd always planned on coming down, and then heading to Ceduna afterwards for the eclipse on 4 December, but I think I'll give that
a miss now. Too much work on here at home to get the time off.
Anyway if the Kombi isn't done in time, I can always catch a Qantas plane down there for the weekend. Will let you know.
