i just scored one of these
what car & yr would they be out of ??

and it is adapted to a Kombi box (1600 i think)

would the oyher subi engines use same adaptor plates.??

bein in qld i thought i might fit it in the KG and no probs to have aircon.

I think you eA71 don't you? It's the 1600 carbie motor. The EJ would use a different adaptor plate as it's alot newer. It's the older version. Pushrod from memory but I could be wrong.

The EJ is completely different motor. Comes in a 16, 18, 20, 22 and 25.

Karmen
ea71 were from late 70's or early 80's Subarus. I think they are very similar to the ea81 but completely different to the ej series. The ea series finished with the ea82 which had sohc heads on virtually an ea81 block. You could check with John Sherman of Volksconversions but I'm fairly sure the adapter plates are not interchangeable.

The motor is very old you would be better to take it for scrap .

The fly wheel has differant centers ( PCD ) as the Ej series so the fly wheel will be no good

In short if you got a low cost box with it cool

give the motor & adapter plate to some kid for a buggy

if its a working motor, use it! unless you want more power. it might be an old motor, but its definitely newer than the vdub motor.

in the end though, its all about what you want

not worth the hassel of fitting a custom engine setup if you ask me... and im sure many ppl will back me up with that,

with all the work of a engine conversion you will probably want a power increase you can feel... i duno if you will feel any difference in the EA...

thats just me tho...

EA71 is just the 1600 version of the EA81, which is 1800 and can be found (if ur lucky) in a twin carb version~120hp and a carby turbo version (good luck finding one though).

WIll definetely be quieter and likely more economical than a VW motor. They are still pushrod, but have a water jacket around the block (obviously) and this helps to dampen alot of the engine noise.

There is a bug over here with the twin carb EA81 - had licence plates SUBDUB, and entered in classic rally a time or two - looked like it went quite well.
