body lift


Hey all its me again sorry to be a pain in the ass, just finished painting my chassis and am nealy ready for assembly. i was just wondering how many people put a body lift kit on a lwb swing axle pan and what the result was like did it handle worse? did u get much more clearence? would it be worth my wile to fit a lift kit now cause later i want to run 31 inch tyres. What size lift kit would u need to fit these tyres im taking it that some one has done this before thanx any advice is greatly apreciated

Add it now.It won't handle any differently as you're only adding height to the body,not the suspension etc. but if you add 3 inches it will give you 3 inches more clearance for those larger tyres.Better to do it now then having to strip it all to do again later:rudolf

I'd say fit a 3 inch lift kit now. Remember that the rego people don't like them because they think that they make the vehicle top heavy, which they do not do.

ahh no worries well ill look into getting the parts how do u go for things like the steering column how dose that mount like three inches loweror same place with longer adapters

you'll need to figure that out as too how it's effected by your seat height and etc. Then fab up a new mount.

well i didnt think bout the seat mounts but i scored a set of buckets with tracks out of an lx impreza so i can play around with them

a 2inch lift kit is leagal in queensland
3 inch is not so please dont listen to them

if you do listen to them please see your your engineer first

sorry to hijack thread but i've always wondered does a lift kit affect how the steering column to attatches to the steering box?

the steering column itself is lifted with the body 3" but the steering box doesnt move so what happens there?
would u use a uni shaft like a superbug?

Steering column comes up at the same angle as original in most cases........so lower in relation to the dash.

For a body lift kit, talk to Sharpbuilt, they make street legal kits (in 3 inch as well as less lift).

well i ordered the sharp built lift kit and after a long conversation with him i found that the steering column will be mounted 3 inches lower cause he also said that the gs limo shell that i ordered has no hole for the stering column so u can figure out were u want it to go through the body after u decide on the lift kit. it would be the same as standard but the body is higher so u can use standard seat runners. if u wanted to change that angle i could move the steering box round on the beam i suppose

I'm doing the exact same thing to my buggy at the moment using the Sharpbuilt kit. I'm fitting a 3 inch body lift. The dash support will be made to mount the steering column 3 inches lower on mine.

hey guys its a wonder someone just hasnt made guards that sit a little higher wouldnt that be easier ,,,,,it would be easier to bolt on 4 new guards with a larger lip than pull the whole body off and then try to make everything git again ,,,,,and you wouldnt have to worry so much about legalities ,,,,,,then again when i picture it in my mind it would probably look poxy,,,,,

I can see your point Stacy b. When you are building your car from scratch it's not that much harder to fit the lift kit. Another bonus is that you add strength to the floorpan.

Another alternative is to cut a section out of the middle of the body and insert the desired lift into the body and glass it up again.
