XF Falcon Vs EA Falcon REAR DISC BRAKES
XF vs EA rear discs
Just wondering on opions between the two. The XF is a ventilated dics and the EA is a solid disc. I would assume the EA is a lot lighter and i know
V-Force sell a cross drilled EA disc that would be even lighter again.
Cooling vs Weight?
Is the unsprung weight of much more importance than the cooling?
Before you ask the question i plan on making my 72 super bug a street registed circuit racer.

I suspect the difference in the unsprung weight of the discs (or at least its effect on the rear of your beetle) would be negligible.
The calipers probably are the more significant choice. What calipers will you use?
I have cross drilled Porsche 914 discs and Golf GTi calipers on the rear of my beetle. I did not install them, they were there when I purchased it.

I was going to use the matching caliper, the XF one looks much larger. What other option/combinations are avaliable and being used?

You MUST use the matching calliper! And yes the XF one is heavier - just take a look.
Cross-drilling - operationally, next to useless on a non-vented disc (the gas has nowhere to go, does it?) and not a good idea from a safety point
unless manufactured that way eg DBA. Slotting is better
I have Falcon EA-EB discs on the rear of my Beetle - with vented fronts - and they work awesome but I am mucking around with a smaller rear disc to
reduce weight and rotational inertia etc

i have the cross drilled rear falcon setup from richard and i can say, even though i have not run on them yet that the setup looks of excellent
quality.

the v-force EA rear is cross drilled purely for weight reduction reasons.
VWcool what front vented brakes are you running?
i stayed up late last and was reading the "Dak to the future" article, it talked about fitting t3 stub axles:

with the use of t3 are the commodore or alfa a bolt on replacement or are there modifications needed?

I have to say chopping holes in brakes to reduce weight never makes any sense to me...
Type 3 hubs won't bolt-on to your Beetle... Dak to the Future had fab'd suspension, so the Type 3 callipers could be incorporated
I am using Falcon front rotors and Commodore callipers on billet-machined hubs and calliper brackets. You can read a bit about it here:

I think the older XF has tomany parts , pins turn to shit as water gets into them .
The EA , Eb work a treat on the rear .I am doing RX7 for the front of my 1960 bug & that will not be a story book

I have an EA Falcon Disc brake set up on my superbug! The EA falcon brake conversion i feel is the best and easiest option!
