coolant warning light!!!

coolant warning light on at startup, with the coolant temp gauge up at the highest temp

after a few mins it somtimes turns off, other times stays on for the duration of my trip

my engine temp digital display never goes anywhere nasty, not over 100 degrees

my thermo fan is fucked, and i have removed it and replaced with a Porsche 996 thermofan. will wire up the new fan tomorrow.

the warning light problem was apparent with the old thermo fan hooked up and with a good fuse, removing the fuse didnt help, and removing the fan hasnt altered the situation either.

i thought maybe it was doing it when the thermofan fuse was blown, but i'v proven that wrong.

the coolant levle is in the normal ranges . it isnt too low.

anyone, anyone?

what sort of car is it??

how was the old fan fucked? was it just not turning on? if so, the fan switch will be dead, a common problem.

mk 2 golf GTI

fucked fan was siezed, 15yrs old and just had enough.

yeah i was quoted $85 for a second hand one, but we got about 30 porsche ones just sitting around close to brand new.

was easy enough to weld some brackets on, and put it in hahah
works GREAT too! and cost $000.00 :D

i think you were right about the low level sensor johnny, because it all got wet on the weekend when the expansion tank nearly exploded, but now it has all dried out, and the warning light hasnt made an appearance for the last two days
