Ah, the never-ending question! :o Might be a good idea if you give some idea on how much you want to spend. Otherwise this is going to become one
REALLY long thread.....

Hi,
Not much you can do for $400 that would give you significant power.
You could get a set of extractors(not tips) for around $200-300 new. These exhausts will give similar results to each other but the power difference
might not be very noticeable (I have a set and I do notice its a bit smoother due to less backpressure). Twin Kadron carbs are probably the cheapest
way to get some more power, these are pretty good but are still around $1000 new for a set but I have seen secondhand ones in good nick for $550. If
you want something that will have a bit of balls this would be the way to go, but if you want to keep up with the mullet ride v8s it may cost a pretty
penny. It will be considerably cheaper if you can do some of the work yourself. Most of the stuff to do with these engines besides machining etc. are
relatively simple to understand after some nutting out. Bolting on carbs is pretty simple, but you may have to get them tuned by someone else.
Cheers and good luck

hey
if u wont big power - no point going 1600 IMHO ur better off going a 2L type 4 i have seen these carby model forsale for around $200 but can go upto
$3000 and get an upright kit for your buggy (around $500) and they have really good low down torque etc other then that i recommend flowing of the
heads and a set of kads and some extractors!
cheers

for around the $400 mark try
1. extractors-- $200
2. block off the heat risers to your manifold( u will then have a colder mixture resulting in more power), although flat spots may occur.
3. rejet your carby.
not much else to do with $200 as twin kadrons are around $400 and worth every cent

Carby
I've got a single centre mounted Dellorto DRLA45 carby that you could bolt onto a standard 1600. It comes with cables/manifold/linkages etc for
$350. This combined with a set of extractors will certainly lift the power on a 1600DP a bit.
Cheers
Steve

This is probably not related to this post but ohhh well what the heck. Can anyone tell me what the best extractors are for a 1600cc with 34PICT/3
carby and 009 dizzy I want to try to get a bit of a sound out of it...if this is possible....which I doubt ?
Cheers

Stock-diameter non-merged extractors, such as the Bugpack, are readily available, fit well and will give you more torque and a much nicer note than a
stock exhaust. You need to strip off the paint that is on them and apply a heat-proof one, preferably before you drive them (and wax the chrome
before it has a chance to rust - the voice of experience.) You can make it louder with a different muffler; a "turbo" type (quite
expensive,) or have a good muffler shop make up something to run from the collector with a cheaper, louder, muffler.
Merged extractors and turbo mufflers are probably a bit of overkill for such an engine, you'd probably like the noise of a Quiet Pack on such a
set of extractors, or a hotdog if you're young.

hmm $400 .
I would play around with getting an electronic ignition conversion , say playing with a Sigma distributor . Using a Golf Pict 5 carby ( the bottom bit
) bolting it on . Shaving the heads for increased compression and getting a set of second hand extractors . Should give you around 10 extra ponies

Ok it will cost a lot more to have someone fit and plumb.....
but a Toyota blower off the 1600, using all the existing parts (be better with extractors) cost about $350. and if you can weld / are machinist /
and lots of time, then could probably get it all going for around the $600.
With standard cam / heads / ( hopefully standard compression - else could have to de-compression) / carby (re-jetted) /
you would get impressive torque gains but not huge power increase. Probably feel like a hotted up 1835 cc .
I lot of work to get fitted, if there was a kit it would be simple.
Some doubt as to suitability if you dont know the existing compression and because the blowers are 2nd hand.
