fitting eyelids

Last year I bought a pair of S/S eyelids for my 74 bug,and have just recently tried to fit them to my car
I have had all sorts of trouble tying to fit them, have even broken a lens!!!
Has anyone had simillar problems or is it just me
Is there any tricks to fitting them ?
any help would be greatly appreciated :)

They need to be massaged gently. They can be a bit tough but hang in there.

yep... also found them to be a pain in the bum when i fitted them to my 57. didn't break anything but thought i needed 4 hands at one point to hold everything in place.
stick at it though as it can be done.

see.... air and water do mix ;)

dont undo all the clips holding the chrome surround on, just undo the ones near the top, this way you can just pull the top edge of the chrome ring forward and slip the eyelids in ;)

i think its more my car...every bit of chrome i buy for her...ends up in a pile in the corner...i have eyelids, tailpipes, scratch guards under the door handle...

I've since decided to just not buy it for the child...if shes gunna be tempermental about it...so be it...but im no longer losing skin trying to put the stuff on her

Mmmm, the eyelids. Those little springs can rocket across the workshop. Spent more time looking for lost springs than fitting the rotten things.

Just fitted peaks/eyebrows/eyelids to the my type 3 on saturday and can tell you they are pain in the arse on a T3 too! We found the trick was to leave the light adjusters loose (but clipped in and all the light clips fitted. Then slide the lip between the glass and the surround. Took about 5-10 minutes per side to slip in properly.

When I fitted mine (a pain like everyone has already said) I ended up clipping the lip of them off with snips in all but 3 spots, like little tabs. This made them much easier to fit. At first I thought they would fall off but they have stayed on for over a year now with no problems.
