don't want to be a downer, but...

My cousin's wife of three whole weeks was killed on a motorcycle. She was only 25. She had been riding for nearly three years and had taken all the riding courses you could have taken - simply didn't take an easy bend for some reason. If she'd been in a car, she'd still be alive today.

Remember, all car drivers ARE actively out to kill you. Ride assuming they want to kill you, ride within your (and your bike's) limits, and you should be mostly okay. As long as you don't drop it, or something else happens.

My brother works as a nurse. In emergency, the nurses call 'em "donorcycles". :)

Motorbikes represent 3% of all vehicles on the road, and only 1% of total distance travelled by all vehicles. However, riders represent 14% of all road fatalities. Therefore, you are about 14x as likely to die on a motorbike as in a car.

Be safe out there.

33 years riding & 25 years of road riding Andrew & I aint dead yet.
I have buried a few of my mates over the years though.
2 killed crossing the road, 4 killed in cars (& one that may have well been killed given the state he's in), 11 killed on bikes.

Doesn't stop me riding, never will.
I'm a firm believer that a bike is as dangerous as you make it.
The day you loose respect for the bitumen, it will jump up & remind you.

But, it is a feeling of freedom you will never get in a car, no matter what you drive.
You drive a car, that's it.
You are an intergral part of a bike.....that's the difference.

As for the statistics, I don't believe I'd have any better chance walking away from a head on in my kombi, than I would on my bike........

Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.
