Early EFI was simple and basic. We have so many "add-on's" and programmes nowadays and has got so complicated, only a few can master it.
Carburettors, mechanical injection and EFI all have a place in "high performance".

I should clarify that the 'tune' was off, due to time limitations not visiting the dyno,
not any problem with the method of delivery.

You wont really need to if you know your tunes are right and compensated for baro and air density!!!
In addition, you can loose about 2 grand and several kilos worth of pump and hoses as well!!!!

I knew a bloke, back in the 1950s, who drag-raced a Triumph motorbike. It ran on methanol, and he 'controlled' the flow with a tap, that was under
the tank. When he opened the throttle right up, he would turn the tap fully open !
One day I saw him walking along on crutches, with a lot of plaster and bandages. When I asked what happened, he said he couldn't turn the tap off at
the end of a run, and the raw fuel ran onto the hot exhaust. The bike caught fire, and he jumped off !!!
A bit too simple, perhaps ?
I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

Had a great weekend at Warwick, top qualified, and got runner-up to Frosty in the "Normally Aspirated Top 8",
and ran a best of 6.922.
Nine runs between 7.256 and 6.922.

Hi Dave, been busy with work, before the holiday I am on now for a month or so,
but since Warwick last year, I did get a chance to inspect the engine internals and upgrade the pistons.
Some new JE's with a notch/forging that better suits the heads.
Dropped the comp down to mid 15's (from 16.44:1), and dyno test the fuel system that was never tested on a dyno.
Still does not like a lot of ignition timing. :O
All good and ready for jamboree in August. 275 @ the wheels.
Sorry for the shakey video, first try with iPhone :_

Nice. Out of curiosity... Why the drop in comp ratio? Was it detonating?

I believe so,
could not feel or hear anything,
but it only wanted 20 degrees timing at 8400rpm.
I optimised the timing curve at every rpm(programmable)
At 22 degrees it lost 13hp,
and even as low as 16 degrees,
it was still within 5hp of its best.
Methanol has an octane rating, not as high, as people think,
good 'racing gas' is much better for higher ratios, but not my style.

Have not updated here for a while, and looks like most of my photos not longer show up from the damn host.
Anyhow, Ran the Jamboree in August, with mixed results.
Off the trailer was a 10.981 @ 121.89mph (6.952@97.09 at the 1/8)
Car was 1849lbs.
11.179 @ 118.65 (6.957 @ 90.62) missed 4th gear.
11.209@ 118.49 (6.976 @ 89.64) missed 4th again.
I will use the excuse of not having a drive of a manual for 11 months,
but all my runs were red lights, and half were missed shifts.
Sunday I adjusted the clutch up and shifted fine,
but had richened the mixture as a safety precaution,
and it was just plain slow.
11.054 @ 120.62mph (7.004 @ 96.17)
In hind sight, I should have been brave and just used the tune from the dyno.
But best be safe.

Warwick was next meeting and interesting because
on Saturday it was between 26 and 30 degrees through the day,
and on Sunday it was never above 17 degrees!
Saturday:
6.923 @ 98.06 1.450 sixty.
6.834 @ 99.58 1.438 leaner mix
6.753 @ 100.47mph 1.427 leaner mix still
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDEri5moa8Q
6.896 @ 99.58mph 1.460 whoops too lean!
6.875 @ 100.08mph 1.462 wheel spin but mph back with richer mixture.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yShvnHGlDB0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4NCWAIoXHU
Sunday never got any temperature in the engine,
and likely the cold temperature meant I never added enough richness.
7.194 @ 95.29 (bogged the start) 1.532 sixty.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WR7INz3dHSU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ydqj6-6vIs
7.05257 @ 96.25 with 1.482 sixty (won by the smallest margin in history! 0.00026 that's right, 26 one hundred thousandths!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f17bmNzI_v4&feature=share
7.141 @ 96.11 with 1.499 sixty, engine dead cold after rain delay.

Great vids Dave. I love watching you race (the last vid is actually one of mine - proud to see you use it)
Seems you have all the right bits, now to just get them all together at the same time for every run
