Plenty in the US of A or try the UK. Do the math if you can afford to service one than you should be able to import one. Damm hard to come by other
than this. Keep checking eBay and all other car sales online. They do appear rarely.
Keep the steering and the propulsion seperate . Still a Kombi...

Hey even better if u think about importing one hit me up and share freight, conversion from left RHD can be done by ones self and then certified by an
engineer if u know what u r doing at least it wont cost 8grand extra, this way. done some research already and cost far outways want.
I really want one......

The US sites seem to love their Syncros. Apart from the engine coolant issues are there any other serious weaknesses?
VW54 you suggest the gearboxes are a weak point. Any idea what fails on them? There's a couple of camper conversions i've seen around in Victoria.
I'd buy one at the right price but I've seen them advertised for up to $17k which seems a lot for a 1990 vehicle or older. But hey they are pretty
rare.
There's a van type Syncro I pass on my drive home with raised suspension and bigger wheels. Judging by the scrapes down the sides and the outer sills
being crunched from underneath looks like it has done some serious off roading.
I'll have to ask him what he's broken if i ever see anyone.
Cheers

It's only natural after all..
I am afraid everyone is confused oir misinformed on the syncro caravelle scene.
The gearboxes are not the weak point it is just like any other 4wd(xcept better) by way that if u drive any 4wd with diff lock on then things go wrong
everything tightens up and then Bang, well the rest is money... Yes they have issues so does every 4wd it's just that this one is so impressive from
standard build that when something goes wrong it's bad only for sake of chasing parts.
As for syncro caravelles there are currently 3 known true caravelle syncro in Aus meaning non personal imports and all 7/8 seats. 1 in SA and 1 in
Outer Newcastle also there is one other in Sydney. 1 in SA u can have for apparently 20grand 89 model and they will sell it for 20grand so gives u
some idea of rariety.
Oh and Gary it's either a Syncro or it isn't there is no confusion on the subject i dont think there are too many Mitsubishi L300's that fall into
the same catergory

Hey there,
I know of 3 Syncro caravelle's here in Melbourne, one of which may be for sale I could pass on your details if your interested?
The gear box is deffinately an issue for Syncros and an increasingly scarce comodity, the problem seems to stem from lack of maintenence by ignorant
owners / drivers, I have 3 on the work bench at the moment, one totally destroyed,
owner didn't recognise the vibration from a shot uni in the center drive shaft, thought the engine was running rough, called NRMA who checked
engine, ' running great! ' so the owner continued on down the highyway at 110 vibrating the muffler and cat off, this wasn't enough to make him
stop, he continued until the nose cone was smashed into several peices, still not stopping he continued on until all the oil had run out and it ground
to a smoking halt,
another one was driven with a different size spare tyre, stuffed bearings and cooked main shafts, a decoupler could have saved that one!
basicly the syncro is a very reliable machine, they do need proper servicing though and a little mechanical sympathy goes a long way too, they are
quite capable off road but not in extreme situations, there strength is all round usability.
Steve.
