heater chanels
Hi everyone,
In removing the carpet on my bug to see what type of seat rails it has, I have found that I am going to need to replace both the heater chanels :cry
in my restore of "zoe"
Can anyone tell me where in Perth I can get them fixed and a idea of price so when I ring around I know if I am getting ripped off or not.
They sound like an important part so I am not really game to fix them myself. Unless someone out there know how to do it and wanted to lend a
hand..LOL
This is the 1st of many suprised in my restore process I am sure, so I am going back to my drink to replan my attack. ( All the surprises are going to
make driving her around when finished even more of a buzz to know that I did this) You all know what I mean right.

To do the heater channels properly in a restored way, and not patched or somewhere in between, you would have to take the body off the pan. The amount
of hours and work involved would amount to maybe somewhere in the vicinity of $2000 to do it properly. It is also possible other rust may be found.
Don't get put off, if your beetle is in really good condition in every other way, it is well worth it.

Ouch.... ok need another drink for that..LOL
Not sure about the really good condition part of the rest of her.
But I have waited almost 20 years to get my bug and do it up so I am not going to be put off, just will take a lot longer...LOL
My brother inlaw is a welder so Might see what he saids . other wise will just have to save some more.

you can buy the whole channel any where from $110 -$180 each...if not all then sections. Have a look on the net, its time consuming and involves the
drilling of heaps of spot welds, yet if you can weld then try it yourself.

VWCOOL he says he has an inlaw who can weld, that covers the hard part. id say do it yourself if you can source the skills... why lose another to junk
or a bog job if it can be saved the right way?

i agree with vwcool - if you could weld yourself then sure spend the month or longer doing it in your spare time. as helbus said its about 2000
dollars worth of work. not a job you ask a friend or rellie to do for next to nothing for you. you either spend the time yourself or you pay a
professional.
