Hi All
Just thought I would post a pic of a little money saving invention. Not sure if this is the right forum, but I thought it is about as close as I will
get.
I have a '69 Beetle and being that I live in Darwin (Wet Season) I needed a way to stop the rain coming through the vent in the front.
After a few quiet drinks with Bone Collector (co-designer) we came up with the following solution as a Rain deflector was fairly pricey.
Step 1: Go to local hardware store and buy a length of PVC pipe (25mm diameter), a length of clear tube (6mm) and some Araldyte.
Step 2: Go buy a 600ml soft drink, drink contents and keep the lid.
Step 3: Cut PVC pipe to length then in half (on a slight angle). Cut the soft drink lid in half and file down to match height at ends of PVC Pipe.
Araldyte into place.
Step 4: Drill hole to match size of clear tube near the end of PVC Pipe (Lower end). Araldyte Clear tube into place. Line all edges of PVC Pipe with
Araldyte and then G-clamp into place. I was able to use 1 G-clamp in the middle. Fill any gaps with Araldyte and leave for 12 hours to dry. Remove
G-clamp, cut clear tube to length to run out of the boot. Paint if so desired.
Total Cost: approx $20.00

Yor car doesn't have the air box under the vent? (it's a bit hard to see from that pic)

You should have the plastic non leak air box situated under the vent..
there is a rubber seal which costs very little if it needs replacing..
I bought the rubber seal from a rubber place...
never had one leak....
the hose from My air box goes down thru the chassis to under the car...

I am pretty sure I know what you guys mean, however it was not there when I bought the car. As I installed a stereo I did not want water getting onto
the electrics therefore this was the Best fit solution.
Also probably a little hard to see but there is a wire cover under there as well.
