Australian Street Rodding Magazine

Hi all, in the March 07 issue of Australian Street Rodding magazine is a pretty good article on a British built '51split window beetle rod, some good info and stying "cues"in it. Will be interesting to see how "mainstreem" aussie hotrodders accept a VW in "their" magazine, worth checkin it out anyway.............cheers mick

The rodders might go nuts like the redneck V8s do when they see a four-pot... or maybe they're a more broad-minded bunch! :thumb

Yeah most rodders are pretty cool with dubs,it just seems that every time they put something other than a "rod"in the magazine they get inundated with howls of protest.Should make for interesting reading.

we are in the bay rodders, have been for a many, many years,, I have found the rod crowd good with the vw's, there has been a few beetles turn up at the rodders show and shines etc. for a long time now.

I took my 56 oval when I finished it to "Johns rod & custom" annual picnic , got heaps of admirers, that was 1996 (I think.)

rods are not just fords & chev's, they are anything, rodders seem to have an appreciation for all types of vehicles.

we were happy to see an article like this,
it's pretty cool:)

It has been my experience that most rodders (and the kustom crowd too) dig dubrods and dubs generally.... I do know that many of the local Rodders are past dub owners..... Surely this is not only a local thing?..... But like all car scenes, there are exceptions.... I know that my ragtop got huge positive responces at 2005's HotRod & Street Machine Spectacular..... It aint no VolksRod of course, but just having some dubs in that company and stealling the show too, has to be good for the cross-pollination of the VW way... Right!....

There are quite a few rodders eying off VWs. Some for their kids and some for themselves and others like me for both to enjoy! I think you will find a pretty high acceptance amongst rodders, especially early bugs and splitties. You even see quite a few at Rod Runs lately! We have a bunch of VW guys on our Forum, including a few from here. That is how I got here, by them indoctrinating my daughter!

You'll find that most rodders dig beetles ,kombi's even type3's when done right. Buildin a volksrod myself (still collectin shit) at present tho i mostly build locally built aussie based Kustoms and even have a wild & wayout chev R.P.U in the works. I dig anything with style to th bodylines and this VW project isn't my first.

Two years ago the Ghia took out car of the day and this year best engine bay at the Caloundra Bike and Rod Show. Some of the American muscle car owners get a bit upset however in general I find them a really interested and supportive crowd. The bike owners and ladies are real admirers. Its great to put the VWs among the bigger 'tougher' cars.
