Seatbelt harnesses
Hi All,
Just a quick question that someone might be able to answer for me.
Are seatbelt harnesses legal in road registed cars? Reason I ask is I am wanting to install some in my dub..

sure is only there are a few restrictions
-- before i installed my sparco harnsees all i really wanted was a nice big 3 inch wide 5 point harness set up but to my dismay leagally i found out
that 2inch is the biggest you can go ( think it has somthign to do with ease of being cut out of the car in an accident)
-- depending on how you mount them you will need engineers to certify how they are mounted ( so i was told ) i combatted this by simply removing the 4
rear seatbelt bolt down point and using the along with the 2 front seatbelt mounts... works absolutly beautifully very easy instalation .
-- I dont know if it is needed but i have a mod plate for the harnesses
i fixed the problem of only having 2 inch harnesses instead of 3 inch harnesses by buying 4 sparco factory harness pads which make them look alot
wider then they actually are plus they look really well as the are bright red against blue and fluro yello harnsesses,, plus they make it more
comftable hope this helps i will post a few pics of where i mounted
them ( i no longer have a back seat by the way as i have no need for it )

You will need to get an Engineers Cert and use harnesses that are Australian Standards approved

few pics of them the they are 2 inch sparco race approved harnesses woth pads ,,, the two lower mount points use the original mounts as do the back ,,
the front00 one on the hump and one on the door pillar

Exactly what he said, then its all gravy. As long as you're not attaching them to the rear seat mounting points, which will invalidate the four
seater setup. As an engineer approved two-seater it should be no problem.

you have to carefull with the angle as they leave the top of the seat,they should run straight back to the top of the rear fire wall or the area above
which is hard because you have no access to there unless you remove some of the louvers above the fan shroud,also the shoulder strap/straps must mount
to the rear in line the centre line of the seat looking down from above .the lap belt also has to comply within certain angular range as the belt
runs across your lap to the mounting points on the floor.if you install the belts to comply to the ADR'S then the car will have to be a two seater
only,75 mm square plates must be used in the installation with 7/16 unf threads,i had mine approved by load safe in brisbane and had no problem
passing inspection as the belts complied with the ADR,S and the mod plate was attached,by the photos it looks like thudnuckle;s should not have been
approved because the belts attach to the lover part of the fire wall ,in an accident it would put an extreme load on to the seat back and onto the
wearer.Richard Larsen was most insistant about the location of the mounting points to mininise force being transfered to your body in the advent of
you being in an accident
