hey hows it going? Don't suppose you know of any decent spray booths that will do my kombi around metro area? I'm in mandurah and don't wanna
travel all the way to perth just to get a sprayin!

Nup.... None of the mainstream shops are into old cars... Most every shop just does insurance work these days.... But I do know Crazy Dave (not on
here, so you may not know him) knows a guy in Naval Base that does a reasonable job.... I think the guy does mostly pommy shit, but Dave had him do
his Oval and his Splitty there....
But you have found the same issue we all have had at some point.... If you want to pay to get it done, then you have to PAY to get it done... Some of
the pro resto company's will do it, but it will cost you.... Thats why we do all our own work these days....
One tip for you guys.... Get to know your local hotrodders.... These guys are great to deal with and are usually very helpful... Your in Mandurah
right n4t4l1e?... There are a number of Rodders down that way.... You too Skint....There are plenty of rodders south of the river.... Check'em out...
If all else fails, call Murray Reynolds (from Cruisin on 31), he'll know who to talk to....

Ok... I have a dilemma.
Firstly... I have a kombi whom I love and I have no experience in how to do anthing to a body of a car but I am pretty handy. Is there anyone out
there willing to trade me giving them a hand on any body work they are currently doing for the knowledge on how to start the renovation on my van? I
am desperate... or if you know any hot rodder who is willing to do work or teach?

You could always enroll in a 'night school' auto body workshop class at Carlyle TAFE... Thats what I did years ago and it has save me a bundle!

Hi all
I have just fitted some CB Performance dropped spindles to my 58 Bug. What I didn't realise was that they push the wheels out about 30mm or so. Now
when I try to turn corners the wheels rub very badly. I have cut some metal from the insides of the arches but with the same problem still happening.
I don't really want to go into shortened beams so what can I do other than going on a diet? Would changing the tyre size help? Running 165s on stock
rims at the moment.

30mm!?... More like 12mm per side.... To be honest... 165's are way too tall with drop spindles... 135's or 145's will make it fit a good deal
better.... It's a matter of course when fitting drop spindles... But I would go with a narrowed adjustable beam too.... A 50mm narrowed beam would
make the world of difference...

30mm was just a guess. I have heard that Nangkang make some 135 or 145 tyres that will fit. Do you know of a local supplier that supplies them. The
local tyre place doesn't want to know if you want anything other than the norm.

PS: Was the 62 a good buy for you guys? I read on NoH20, after the sale, that you where gona break it up. I hope you all got the bits you needed.
I'll be breaking a 64 soon if you need any bits.

Hoodwink knows of a shop in Morley that is a Nangkang agent.... I'd suggest you look for an agent that can supply them...
I don't usually like to wreck cars if I can help it, but the sacrifice needed to be made... The 62 wasn't really worth saving when we got it, and it
had some weird bits on it too!!! But the sum of parts have gone to make 4 other cars better...

Yeah... The rear bumper brackets were different, side to side... Early bonnet... But its nice to know that the 62 has saved some very cool cars from
an otherwise extended stay in the workshop...

Just wondering if you're still here and still willing to help since the last post was over a year ago.
I just got my first bug and I really don't know very much about restoration or upkeep besides what it says in my handy Haynes manual that came with
the dub.
It feels a bit like I'm in a void as I keep seeing dubs randomly, but don't actually know anyone who owns one. I joined this forum in the hopes some
perthians with bugs would mentor me in the Way of the Beetle. |
