Low Square
I was emailed this photo a little while ago from the states. The wheels are 17" Radars. I was thinking the same for my '68 Square, but heard that
they may require spacers for the offset. Has anyone run Radars on their early Type 3?

not sure about the spacers but i know that square is on air and those wheels are 17" escras, rader/randar lookalikes

I've run 15" Radars on an early Fasty, no clearance probs with the rims, just be carefull about what front tyres you run as they could hit the guard
on sharp turns

I struggle with 16's on my square - you have seen it, was in the last vma mag. I have smashed the front guards from turning and going around corners.
Would suggest a narrowed beam. I know someone putting a 3" narrowed type 1 beam in there type 3.

There are a couple of people over at the SAMBA site who have done the Type1 Conversion. You may get some advice over there. HOWEVER if you do, I would
reccomend you search for the keywords then PM those who did it. That sort of question over there will have quite a few people trying to burn you at
the stake and others who will say it's the Ducks nuts. There is also a
fair amount of discussion on fitting wider wheels and what people did to do so. Unfortunatly I am into more subtle changes and did not take much
notice.

I currently have plans for a narrowed beam, but not a type 1. The rear will be an interesting challenge. Thanks for the links.

The Samba is you're best bet for sorting out the rear, maybe cut out the rolled in lip on the rear side guards to give more clearance.
Type3 looks wicked with narrow front beams.
I'm looking forward to seeing some pics of your Type3 Craig. Maybe you could post a few pics here on the site?

This is the '67 Square coming home from the farm at Nanango in Qld where I bought it. No hits, running, and all the bits (some in a box inside). It
needs a new drivers floor pan, which I bought new from Wolfsburg Automotive in Melbourne.
This will be my new daily driver (Kombi is going onto Historics), and will have a slightly warm 1776, lowered, with narrowed front beam, alloys
(probably Sprintstars), some period items and fresh interior. I'm looking forward to driving it. Should be a fun car.

And another. At the moment the car is in the yard under a tarp. I've gutted the interior, done all the brakes, and got the motor running right, just
so as I can move it around the yard easier. I've also located new bullet indicators, some nice long chrome rear reflectors, some badges, and fresh
rubbers.

Tidy work Craig, thanks for the pictures. Sorry about the late reply, work has been busy and well I did almost forget there was a Type3 section on the
site.
I'm also interested in how the floor pan will fit as both of mine are rusted out and need to be changed. Hope you can keep us posted if you get the
time. I'd love to read about it.
I was so stoked when I read your intro to the magazine and how you fell in love with the Type3 as it reminded me of the time I drove mine home. Maybe
a worth while story for the magazine one day.

The floor pans will go in sometime July. I'll take plenty of photos. These pans came from Wolfsburg in Melbourne. They seem to be the real deal, but
the proof is always when you go to line them up.
The Type 3 front is such a dream to lower. A couple of hours and a few basic tools and down she comes. The early model rears are just like a Beetle,
but the later models with the twin spring plates take some doing.
The only thing I'm not too fussed on is the Type 3 tinware, especially changing a fan belt. And removing spark plugs 1 and 4 with the twin port
manifolds is a right pain. However, working above the motor is much better than working through the hatch on the Kombi ute.
Everything will have to wait, though, until after the next issue, which has snuck up on me again. That and the drag Beetle.

To run the 17s u will need to mod the wheel arches at the rear, There are a few pics of the cars that i have tried them on in my members rides post.
