What can you tell me about PMG split kombis

I got told my 67 Spltty bus was an ex PMG bus,
I also got told that someone in Brisbane had restored their PMG van to look as it was when it was a PMG van.
Post Master General? yeah?
Aussie post van?
Any pics or info would be appreciated.

The one in Brisbane is probably mine

100,000 miles, all original paint, engine, interior (9 seater). NOT restored. Now have a good collection of original PMG tools as well. It has all the usual PMG spec options - trip speedo, anti syphon, gas guage etc...

No big white stripe around it - exactly as you see it. Black bumpers, black wheels, painted hubcaps, black emblem, red paint. Its a 61'

Your looks very cool like a time traveller.
Mine is 67 model and aussie made with the high vents, I guess yours is imported originaly or were the vents low with the early models here?
So its a postal van? thats what the pmg refers to?
I would like to have a look at your van sometime and see if there are any odd things common to both, I too have the trip reset speedo, but I understand that my year model got that standard. mine is also the same colour in the spots previous owners couldnt be bothered to paint over.
I would like to trace back the history of my van, All I know so far was that it used to live in redcliffe according to some old paperwork, and had a diesel motor fitted at one stage but is now back to original.
it also has the disc brake front end with the latermodel kombi studpattern.
its now a very faded caramel like colour.
cheers Tony
ps I would say your van was the one mentioned to me.

Post Masters General was correct - they looked after Post, Telephones & I believe electricity at some time as well.

This is what I have been told -

Trip speedo's were fitted to locate exact things (like telephone poles etc)

Mine seems to have been a supervisors car or similar, fitted with windows (most were panel vans). It was fitted with some form of 2 way or CB radio, the chassis remains & it had a central roof mounted antennae. And of course - factory fitted rear seats. It has an anti syphon spring fitted to the fuel neck, the fuel cap is attached to the car by a chain, it has a fuel tap & a fuel gauge. Mine is now fitted with a German Bekowa roof rack

I can tell you that they were all either red or orange, even almost yellow sometimes.

These days departments don't change colours so much, they're more into changing their name and letterheads!

Dont worry Andrew - its in safe hands :D

The speedo now reads 104 miles, just turned over the big 100k.

Will leave it completely as it is - you could never restore a bus like this & retain the character.....

P.S. There are several which I wish I had never sold,

My 67' Westy with 69,000miles :(
My 66' Ghia with 17,000 miles :( (was at Uni & it paid for a years beer - 7 grand in 1985)
My 56' Oz delivered cabriolet (still at Uni)
My 21 window (another south Oz car!):(

Anyway, the wife says no more than 20 cars at a time (thats the ones she knows about ;))

Col all the PMG vans were RED when everyone used to work the Post Matser General

Orange and Yellow only came along when the government had a fancy name change to Telstra

If every blood thing that the PMG owned used to be RED.

1302 Steve used to work for the PMG
