1600 engine

Hey all,
Well I've had my kombi for about 3 weeks now and I've decided its time to start taking some action to improve it. I've decided to upgrade the motor from the old 1200cc to a 1600cc (I was planning 1915cc but I was told that was just a waste???) and do a few other things. I went to the guy who sold me the kombi who is in the kombi renovation business and asked him how much it would cost to do the following:
- Change the 1200cc to a 1600cc
- Lower the bus
- Change window rubbers
- Change from drum brakes to disc
- Better shock absorbers

He quoted about $15k to do all this but this seems really expensive. I was wondering if you guys could give me a second opinion. Remembering that everything will be top quality (most likely all new), how much would this cost?

A big question but thanks for taking the time
- Jake

You would be better of spending the 15K on a newer van.

What year is the one you have ??

That is a lot you are asking

I assume you are talking splitty cause of the 1200.
I am also assuming drive in drive out?

- Change the 1200cc to a 1600cc
New motor (no exchange for 1200 bits) plus gear box mods - easy $6k

- Lower the bus
easy a couple grand to do it properly

- Change window rubbers
Splitty - whoa $$$

- Change from drum brakes to disc
again say $2k

- Better shock absorbers
couple haundre to $1k

If you do it in stages you will get it down.

I was planning 1915cc but I was told that was just a waste??? - NOT BY ME YOU WERENT!
A 1915 makes GREAT power - like twice a 1600. Now weather you NEED it.
Then there are carbs etc. And yes they cost a LOT more than 1600.

As Dave said - what type of van is this?

Ask more Q's
