brake upgrades
what brake upgrades do people recomend for type 3's? I want to go bigger with my engine but want to get the handling and stopping as best as possible
before I do. Can you get uprated pads and disks? Also how do you go about a rear disk convertion? I have a 69 square so irs rear.

I've heard that alot of porsche 944 parts bolt straight on? But i'm not sure..

Hi
If you have a pre 71 Type 3 you can fit the later front stub axles and bigger callipers. Porsche 944 rears will push out the track 26mm per side and
you will need funny offset wheels to keep it under the guards. Also Richard at V Force has mentioned to me that there was another front calliper that
could be used on a Type 3 along with a Porsche hub.

hey
good call, we all need good brakes, any way i got standard 72 mdl brakes on the front and was told that 73 mdls had way bigger ones is this true?
and to fit them all that was required was different spindles off the later mdls?
any ideas?

Hi
I think that the bigger brakes came in on the Type 3 with the introduction of the high back seats and wipers on the column, so about 1972.
Below are the pad types for the Type 3 along with the chassis number that they fit.

would you have to adjust the brake bias if you put on a disk brake rear set up? And is the set up in the picture legal for nsw?

There are few sets of these on cars now and they are a good match with std front discs upgraded with good pads. Bat69 is racing on a set (hill climbs)
and he seems very happy. I have a set on one of my cars (L-Bug) that I would be happy to demonstrate
Yes, ANY mods to brakes requires engineers' approval/certificate. These brakes will satisfy any engineer

This brakes 'kit' is designed to allow Nissan Skyline callipers to be DIY installed on a VW four-stud application for an easy upgrade for cars with
standard front brakes. As such, the front brakes on mine and bat69's racer are standard discs but with good-quality front pads. These brakes fit
inside 14-inch rims so anything bigger is no worries.
Cost for the machined components in the kit is $770 exchange with your old brake drums. This price includes second-hand callipers plus everything else
required to get you 'on the road'. Add $125 for a kit based on brand-new hubs/no exchange.

Do they have a similar setup for hand brake as do the Falcon setup?

yeah mate they do; same principle but actually I reckon it works a little better. But the overall disc is smaller and thinner than Falcon that makes
it a better match for standard Beetle/Type 3 front discs

where can you get the kit from?
Also what pads do you recomend for the fronts? and is it worth looking out for a set of late front callipers for the larger pad foot?
