Hi

Do you mean a Type 3 (fast back, notchback or wagon) or a T3 Kombi?

Linkages may need a bit of " engineering "
but do-able.
Pretty sure the carbs fit in but could be some interference to sides....
Foam socks are easy to fit on top - you can buy exact size to attach. (cost a bit though). they breath real nice too.

Yeah Tazzielittle's got it right
It can be done!

I must warn you that I myself have not done this, but I know someone who has and if this helps in anyway then.......great!

There are some engineering involved to your block. You need to change where the oil filler comes out and you will need a hole drilled so you can screw the oil pressure sensor into the block. I can find out for you who does these types of things if needed.
(Don't wanna sound conceited) but if you didn't already know, Type III's have it where your fan is going to go.
I presume your going to use the beetle cooling and tinware?
Well in doing so, you need to use an upright beetle oil cooler to fit into your doghouse.
The generator pulley support just bolts straight on the same as a beetle.
Try placing your the top part of your beetle tinware on the engine, then the fan with generator should slip into place. Once you have all this in order it's time for the carbies.............................................

oh I gotta go!

Nah just kidding

:P

To get the accelerator cable to come through the doghouse, you need to turn the Type III linkage assembly (the one that's bolted on the block) upside down. Now not the whole thing, but the top swivelly thingy section of it.
Man I hope this is makin' sense? The reason for this is to bring the accelerator cable to clear the fan (not a problem with the Type III's)

And pretty much finally, the linkages!
Unless you get something especially fabricated, you will need to adjust the length's (hopefully you have that can be lengthened) and on the right hand side, well sounds dodgy I know, but your going to have to put a bend in them to go under your generator.
Vwalla, Type III powered beetle!
