Hi there,
i was wonderng if any of u could help me.
I have a t3 disel westfalia, 4 gears engine and 51 hp;
the thing i'd like to know if that's possible to switch its original engine by another that works properly and gets more powerful, for instance the
turbo disel version 1.6 tdi.

Wut really happens is this van is a bit slow especially for up hills, so as far as i already have 2 engines i was thinkin' of making this possible
change.
so far i have asked two workshop and they told me they dont really know, they'd hace to check,,bla bla bla
so if any of u has made it or knows it that's possible please let me know.
pd: Synchro thx for the answer, but i hace to aclarafy engish is not my mother tongue and i dont really understand shortening writing, thx anyway

If you've got the 4 cylinder diesel I believe it was the same unit as a Golf so not surprising it is a bit underpowered.

Where are you based. If you are in Australia a Subaru conversion is likely to be a good option.

Most South African Syncros ran a VW Golf turbo diesel. 1.6 or 1.9 unsure?
As for the conversion to another engine of the same family VW Vanagon/Transporter/T25/T3, there are no major mods needed the only thing that you may
have to look into is the mounting of Gearbox bell housing to Clutch/Engine.
I am pretty sure that all Vanagons Syncros have the same mounting hardware. The only difference being the computer of different years.

thnx a lot IWISH, im pretty sure all of this info is gonna supply me of enough information.
Indeed about the change i agree with u so long as the engine its from the same family, here in spain we got the SEAT's,a pretty cheap national cars
with engines provided by Wv that should fit.
well i'll tell u all something as soon as i get more conclusions about my idea.
well, so far all uor tips are bein' very useful for me, we could say im still a beginner in all this westy world so far as i bought it last summer in
July.

When i say same family
I mean only the T3 / T25 / Vanagon / Wasserboxer, Transporter, Caravelle, Syncro Variants
A SEAT, as i have one in my Garage is a totally different type of motor, which will not produce enough Torque.
IT will REV high, but Rev's V's Torque are a totally different issue.
If u plan on using any other type of motor other the above mentioned you will have to do alot of modifications so as to make it fit and match the
SYNCRO drive train.

Hi aussies,
well after a while with out breaking any new, i only have to say the information IWISH gave me it's been really useful. Exactly the torque is some
diferent beetween seat and Vw, so i've already ordered an old engine from a caravelle that should be ready pretty soon. I've been doing some
guessing and some mechanics have told me the change is perfectly possible so there we go, i'll tell u all when i try again the experiment.
