My 1965 Type 1

I've put up some photos in the new members forum but thought I would stick them in here too.

I just bought it recently.

It has been well looked after by its previous owners. I have receipts going back 20 years, showing all the work carried out on the car. I also have the original service book but am dubious about its authenticity but not to worry. As far as I understand its mostly if not totally original mechanically and in bodywork. In total it has traveled 94k miles and runs very well.

Yes, it is in good shape given its year. I intend to improve it over the next yeat or two, as certain aspects are looking a bit tired, such as the paintwork and chrome fittings.

Hey mate,

Great find there, good to see that there are still beautiful cars like yours out of the roads today, even after all these years.

I brought my 1962 bug off the original owner, and looking at dubs like ours show that vw built these cars to last, seeing how they have stood the tests of time. (Provided that the have been looked after and serviced)

Cheers Luke. I agree with you, all the more reason to preserve these cars close to their original condition.

Do you have photos of yours on a post somewhere on this site? If so, please post a link so I can have a look

Here's the earliest pic I could find, but this is after the "mutilation" process began. lol, I alway get carried away and forget to take progress pics.

But it was just like yours to start with, only yours has better interior.

Looks exactly how the 2nd picture reflects, thats also the highest the car sits. Only the interior is nothing like yours anymore. Way out there old school Rat meets Gasser style.

I can't leave anything alone, I have to tinker.

Thanks for the comments. Was speaking to a vw guru recently who informed me this beetle, along with a number of others, was imported from Germany for use by German diplomats posted in Canberra. Apparently they were too snobby to drive the Australian assembled beetles!! Apparently these models are rare and sought after.
