hoonbug and Mr Fasty

Here are my beasts as they currently stand.

Hoonbug, my 2001 turbo Beetle daily driver:

Mr Fasty, my other daily driver (a 1970 green/primarily white Fastback, with dual carbs):

Air/Water?

Mate, it looks as if you have one leg on each side of the fence.... that could be painful, you know? :o

Yep, it is painful. Going from one to the other is scary. No matter which direction.

If I go from hoonbug to Mr Fasty, I have to remember to leave lots of room and step on the brakes early. When I go from Mr Fasty to hoonbug I have to watch my speed and remember to not stand on the brakes.

Luckily, we've had some good weather, so I'm happy taking Mr Fasty to work at the moment. I have this fear of doing roadside repairs in the wet. Maybe I'm not cut out for aircooled ownership...

Nah, they both have different qualities. As Mr Fasty is my second aircooled VW (and hoonbug is my second watercooled VW) I don't think I'm a shrinking violet when it comes to looking after them.

It's just that over the years, I've somehow become soft and prefer other people to do my bidding, just like my cats expect of me. Old cars (and I mean anything over five years here) require you to get close and personal with them if you want to keep them on the road. I can fix most things that fall off and I have done head surgery before on my 1300, and in some ways I'm looking forward to the time I can do Mr Fasty's resto as I'll learn heaps.

But hoonbug is so much easier to drive. It's far more forgiving of me being an idiot behind the wheel and makes me look good. :-)
