white beetle

i was up in adelaide on the weekend and stayed at the holiday inn on hindley st. in the hotels underground car park i saw a vey nice white, 60's beetle. i was wondering who owned it (so that i can say how envious i was of them) and what the deal was with the mesh under the number plate light?
