Syncro/T3 misfires
Went out to fire up my syncro today and he struggled to fire.
Went through the basics spark, fuel, fuel pressure etc. He would fire and then die in the arse with a cough and a splutter backfiring and so on,
almost like running on 2-3 cylinders, yeh up shit.
After priming fuel pump LOTS; He fired up and ran sweetly for a couple of seconds, maybe 10. Ok so next got fuel at seperator to rails, thought i
would check Injectors. Turns out the rubbers at intake Injectors have dried up and perished enough so as to allow left side front (cylinder3?) freedom
of movement best part of 5-10mm. Pushed persihed model into seat and what u know; like it was brand new.
Need to find an injector rubber service kit or replacement kit; where from???
Posting so as to find a kit
and also to give others the heads up.

hiya wish, any fuel resistant square edged round "O" rings, hmm where would you find those?? how about cutting a fuel hose into slices- it works for
me!! its cheap n easy!
the fault you describe sounds like the air flow meter, have you checked the connector and the float inside? just a thought. cheers jon

No but i will say just before all this occured i was giving the filter a blow with compressed air. and then refitted the air box.
Yes i actually had the same thought as this was the only part i had actually removed and then replaced.
Before all this happened he would run OK a bit rough at idle but otherwise ok, since i found the rattly injector i thought i nailed the problem. But
as u suggest this may be part of the problem, not the whole problem..
Dont know about the cheap and easy solution, as syncro had been sitting for at least 18months before runnning. So the rubbers are all dried up and
brittle. CIP1 has a whole kiy for 9bucks plus post. cheaper than a length of fuel hose?
AFM u think,
I will re sus and see, Float inside, same as gate inside? Never heard of referall to a float inside AFM. Connector is the newer model to cure Syncro
driving problem, random cutouts, also previous owner has had the comp chipped.
As for the pics Gary, i said it's running not finished. still throwing undercoat on him and i have the tedious task of running/hookup of the locker
lines.
got to get over christmas dont wory i am so close that all the kids let me know, "when can we go 4wdriving dad" and so on and so on.

Nah is sweet i bought one a long time ago.
Thanks for offer.
Prevoius owner has attacked the adjust screw at some point as top cover cap is missing.
So i am going to have to check Co2 levels in cat as well so as to make sure is tuned right.
All i did was clean the air fiolter by removing the whole box from intake elbow. Typical VW.

OK i did nothing other than play with the connections on the AFM and it runs like an old syncro. So what gives?

Late reply/finalisation to post..
After much tail chasing, one day on a run back from the beach bloody thing cut out several times, but each time restarted.. With some "cmom u gotta
get us home and then i can look into your problem" talk.
I had 4 kiddies in the syncro and we were about 2 k's from home at that point..
Made it home and turned him off and tried to restart several times with no action plenty of cranking but no tick boom, know what i mean; anyway i had
enough sussed some forums and decided to call the auto electrician.
Last resort; i suggested that it maybe the "Hall Sender" unit but as i had minimal testing gear was unable to confirm...
A short time later at work confirmed it was the hall sender unit....
Lucky i am as once these parts go they usually just stop, but myn had been giving me warnings for some time....
Suggestion ; buy a secondhand dizzy if u own T3 cost is minimal but needed it will be should be part of everyones rescue kit has become part of
myn...
