front torsion bars HELP NEEDED... type 1
I have had adaptors fitted to My front torsion bars on My 68AutoBug and when they are assembled etc.. the ball joints don't look like they are
pointing in the correct direction... Any one have a photo before the axle hubs go on... I can't really see how they can be fitted incorrectly,
but they certainly look WRONG.... HELP..!!

I'm not sure what you mean exactly,
I recently replaced my ball joint(after one came loose!, luckily I was going slow, somebody up there still likes me!). The top torsion arm balljoints
should face down and the bottom ones should face up with the marking on them facing forward(in relation to the car). The torsion arms should trail in
the direction of the rear of the car. I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but that's all I can think of.
Josh.

Thanks Josh,
The top one is pointed towards the front bumper... or towards the ground... both extremes of adjustment... I wonder if that is OK and I have to push
them under somehow.... it just seems they are too far forward pointing... the lower ones seem too far in the opposite direction.....
So it seems neither are correctly positioned.. I will have to see how I go, and undo the locking set screws to find the correct setting then Maybe
weld it all up... I should have just cut the originals and adjusted them and welded them back up... Oh Well.. live & learn... I JUST wish it
wasn't so hard learning... :bounce:bounce:bounce

When you say you had "adaptors fitted " to your front beam, do you mean adjusters ? or am I completely on the wrong track ??
It would be great if you could take a photo to show us what the problem is.
I just replaced my front beam on the weekend and while it does look a bit strange when the stub axle is out it's fine once you put that back in
place. You have to put in a bit of effort to spread the ball joints apart to fit the stub axle in place.
Not sure if this is helping.....
Mark.

Sorry Mark,
Yes the adaptors are actually the adjusters..[I should My post before sending it....] it looks like they have been put in around the wrong way... ie.
the locating sleeve in the centre with the grub screw has been put in incorrectly, so the ball joint arms are facing the wrong way...
I have 3 of the ball joint arms on the torsion bars.. the other one is becoming a bit of a problem... once they are ALL together with the stub axles
etc... I will have to modify the locating sleeve by cutting another hole for the grub screw... and probably rewelding the adjuster brackets.... or
something similar....
I will attempt to take a pic tomorrow ..
