Is there a market for T3 Caravelle?
It may be getting time to change to a smaller car. My wife is considering trading-in her 1990 Caravelle GL
Its done 250,000kms, in reasonably good condition. Automatic, airconditioning, power steering, central locking etc. plus we've only put good stuff
on it - like adjustable koni's all round.
Is there a market for these vehicles?
What sort of price? $6500?
Anyone know?

Thanks for that.
I just wonder if there are people out there looking for one. It is a terrific vehicle, but under appreciated by VW folk.

Thanks for the responses.
My wife traded the Caravelle in - I think the dealer was keen to get it.
It was a bit of a toss-up whether to trade-in or sell it ourselves - but its quite a reasonable deal - on a Passat Variant.
This will be the end of 23 years of T3 Kombi's in our family - bit sad really. Camping trips all round Australia, with room to spare.

Was tempted to use the cooling-off period to call off the Trade-in. There is no satisfaction from a trade-in for the looking after and maintaining
factor. Cleaned the car for the inspection and it looks and runs so well - quality feel.
Would be nice to have an appreciative buyer (but do they exist?)

Joseph,
Is it possible for you to send me some details, pictures, price etc for this van if its not too late.
I'm the Brendan that Barry is talking about above.
I dont come into the watercooled section very often, just popped in to see if there was any T3 action going on.
You have a PM with my email address in it.
Cheers
Brendan

Personally speaking I love T3 Caravelles. Currently I have a '91
Transporter (my first VW), and if I were to ever sell it, it would be to get a Caravelle. There most definitely is a market, allbeit niche. All things
considered, if you hang on to your T3 for a while, it'll probably start increasing in value as they have the last of the traditional Kombi layout.

I am collectin them all the time i just dont always have the cash.
85 CL Caravelle 1.9ltr 2 an 89 GL Caravelle 2.1ltr + 92 Transporter Syncro Dual Lockers.
Currently trying to source my mates 91 Transporter DL version. Bit rough but great for spares.
So yes those in the know want T3's.
Myself i will never go any further forward It's gotta be a T3.
Yes i am a little dirty i missed out on this one. I am keen for an Auto. Less box troubles.
Keep the steering and the propulsion seperate . Still a Kombi...
It's all good, until it's bad, i suppose

Caravelle GL on the market again
Things don't always turn out as expected. The mechanical report on the car we were buying is not so good and we'll probably pull out of the deal.
So, that means there could be a T3 Caravelle GL for sale.
Teach me to have a better look at cars before going this far again. I was hanging back since it was my partner doing the buying, but have learnt the
lesson.

I have the impression that the used car market is very flat at the moment. Are you getting much interest in your vehicle?
My original question was is there a market for T3 Caravelles? It might be better for us to look at a trade-in after all.

Almost any vehicle is a small car compared to a T3 on the inside. My partner is looking at used Subaru Foresters or Passat Variants.
What knowledge is there of these vehicles?
Here are a few quick pics I took one night

Your Caravelle looks like a nice clean unit. I'm a little jealous as it pretty much looks like mine except I have a Transporter so have the very
basic interior. I'd love some captains chairs. Oh well...
I used to own one of the original Forester GT turbos. It was a great car, very fun to drive. Only gripes were poor quality plastics used in the dash
and the very limited luggage space in the rear. Aside from that, it never let me down over the 80,000kms I put on it.

Prior to my partner having this Caravelle, I had a Transporter that I had bought new in 1985.
It had seats and headlining and over the years I added the flow through ventilation into the back, sound insulation, driving lights and fog lights,
koni shocks etc.
It was a great vehicle, with good fuel economy.
When we got the Caravelle I was amazed at how much more refined and quieter it was - its like a limousine.

Oh!
I suppose I was over-enjoying the opportunity to talk about how good a T3 is.
I remember trying out a T4 Caravelle, but being unimpressed with the dynamics and driving experience. I had a little drive of a T5 van and was pleased
with that.

On the market
We are taking the plunge and putting the Caravelle on the market.
It is my partner's car so drive it only occasionally, but am always impressed when I do.
There is an ad in the for sale section.
I hope an enthusiast wants it.

Its gone
It turned out there is quite a market for a T3 Caravelle. We had many enquiries and sold the car to an enthusiast.
Just hope it goes as well for them as it did for us.

It'll end up at auction with all the other 'shitters'
Any more than 60-80K on the odo or 5 years old and dealers want them out of thier yards ASAP

Surprised at your post.
Sold the vehicle privately, to an enthusiast as we hoped. There was lots of interest in it.
