There are easier ways to get a boat anchor!
From what I hear people try and put them in and end up changing them to a single spinner, so just wait and get a EJ20T.

I love 242HP sleepers.
How many sets of lights does it take a $229k Carrera S to learn?
UPDATE: Cayman S, M3, B4 now added to the list.

91 rs ? were not fitted with this motor , its a JDM donk then
single turbo is the way the 91 RS motors had bad lifter problems , I would be staying well away from that motor

Rhys , the main reason that they are a shit to fit is that the second turbo is in the same position as the VW starter motor
Don't let body work get in the way of real suspension travel

ok so im still wondering about this motor. why am i seeing so many posts in other forums of people asking for diagrams and such of this motor if is
crap to use??!?! did all versions of this motor have issues?? i would have assumed that a jdm motor with 40-60k would be a perfect conversion
candidate if it was well maintained. and with 280 hp stock im beginning to wonder why i didnt try it out myself???
granted, you do need to find a vaccum/solenoid box, but if you did find one, and you happened to find a great jdm motor for super cheap (ebay maybe)
why not try it out?? only other thing youd need is a new high torque starter that will clear the secondary turbo (one that i already have)
this guy did it with fairly little trouble and documented the whole build!!----ubber nice job too!!
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/844382/2
on wikipedia this is all i could find about that specific motor and any issues with it...im surprised it was used all the way till 2003 legacy's!!!
why keep using it if it sucks?! they only changed it to a bigger single turbo after that. i would rather have full boost at 2000rpm!!!
"Turbocharged versions continued to be available in most non-US markets. Speciality touring and racing versions were available in Japan, as well
as the DOHC 2 liter twin sequential turbocharged (EJ20H) version on both the Legacy RS sedan and wagon, listed as "Boxer 2-stage Twin Turbo" on the
engine cover shroud. The twin turbo can only be installed on right-hand drive vehicles because the turbo on the left side interferes with both the
brake master cylinder and steering linkage, among other things. A minor performance problem with the twin turbo is there was a "turbo dead zone"
that surfaced between the transition from the first turbo before the second turbo would kick in around 3500-4000rpm. A continuous traction delivery
system, called VTD by Subaru, was used with all JDM turbocharged vehicles with the automatic transmission. The VTD AWD system is a permanent AWD due
to its 36% / 64% split."
i assume that "dead zone" could mean low boost there or something. or a drop in boost slightly. but at wide open throttle you would probably hardly
notice. most of my city driving is done below that rpm so ide be good i think. highway maybe at like 3200 the highest-even with my 3.88 r/p!!
found something to fix the "dead zone" issue. a simple ecu reflash....
http://www.ecutek.com.au/pdf/B4-story-by-autospeed.pdf
what im saying is, if you maintain the car well, and dont race the crap out of it, shouldnt it last just as the others. why is this such a motor to
stay away from specifically?

The cardomain page tazbo28 mentioned is mine.
IMO the most difficult part of using a JDM TT engine is sourcing parts for it like loom, ECU and solenoid box but if you have al of these your
fine.
second extra difficulty over a single turbo is the downpipes, you'll have to custom make or heavily modify the stock ones to clear the rear trailing
arms and drive shafts on a type 1.
My big mistake was not securing the wiring loom in place enough and when driving it , part of the loom moved and melted against a turbo. Result, new
loom and ECU which took me about a year to find and get send to Belgium.
The power the TT engine puts out is fantastic, a real thrill to drive and it can easily be described as being "scary dangerous fast" .

Awesome conversion man!! i loved it. i have to be honest. seeing that page made me want to do my conversion. no im really wanting to try out this
ej20tt. i already have an aftermarket ecu and i could have the loom customized to work with the motor. im going to try and spend some time trying to
get the solenoid box and hoses somewhere. wondering some subaru parts sources sell this online. ill have to check back here with the prices i find. I
should have stuck to my gut!! haha. maybe then ide be driving around a 280hp superbeetle!! with the after market ecu maybe a couple of psi more and
300+hp!!!
so what did you do about the supports? use the stock suby mounts below the engine or just the csp torque bars? right now im running the trans strap
kit and urethane mounts.
also can you post up some new pics of the car??

as for support bars, I have a solid rear trans mount and a Gene Berg mid mount kit ( no front mount for now). The engine and trans have been moved
forward by flipping over the rear trans mount.
The stock Subaru engine mounts cannot be used with the shortened sump I'm using but I made brackets that attach the stock engine mounts to the rear
trans mount, without these the engine vibrates way to hard when starting from a stand still.

probs are ( I am talking gray top injector motor )
turbos ( you dont need two )
vacuum lines & all the vacuum bits to suport them , like looking for needle in a hay stack when the motor dont run
now if you have found your self a TT with yellow top injectors ! ( still issues with vacuum )
you have found GOD now go & single turbo it
