Gday
Hi,
Over the weekend we had a new addition to the family. It has been Dads ambition to buy a VW for a while, as he used to own a few back in the day.
We will be slowly restoring and doing it up, as i cant be bothered spending money on my own car and at least if we pull stuff off the beetle to fix it
doesnt need to be put back on too quickly.
Have a few question's about these bugs as i dont know much about them. Been trying to find answers on here but finding it hard.
Anyway, what do you think?
Dave

Nice clean looking late model bug!
Probably the best of the factory colours from that period and in great lustre for its age.
If you need answers, you gotta ask the right questions.
So what big plans do you have for the bug?

This isnt my car but hopefully il be having as much influence on the old man as possible. First thing we do is get it roadyworthy, n fix up the
drivers side rear gaurd.
After that, lower the front, extractors with just 1 pipe not 2. and wide wheels and that all, apart from the keep it original which would include a
respary.
ok question time:
now the late model is 4 stud, is that by 100? and what is a good offset for the bugs? We will be looking for about 6inch wide. Dad said hes after 14"
chromies in which you can still hav the hub cap on.. mind you this was back in the day .
Im sure il think of plenty more questions, which are very simple. But i tried the search function and came up with... lets say interesting results
that had nothing to do with what i was searching.

welcome to the clan
bugs rims are 4x130 which sux cos beetles and type 3s
are the only cars on the road using that pattern
and also being an Lbug makes it hard to fit any sort of rims to as anything wider than 6" interferes with the struts in standard form
with a bit of work u can make anything fit tho
ive got 18" rims on mine but had to do a few mods to get them to fit
search functions never work like theyre supposed to

Hi
Congratulations on the car, to my mind the 75 is the best strut model and arguably the best late model bug, if you can get a good one.
If your going to lower it anyway get some skinny adjustable struts from Vintage VeeDub or V Force, these will give you more room for wider front
wheels.

Thanks for all your help.
Another question, is there any mob that sells new L dashes? I have been searching the net, and the only result was left hand drive
So has anyone heard of these widen rims my dad goes on about? I know you can get them for the 5stud bugs as that is what he used to own, but again
didnt find much on the net.
Thanks again.

4 stud x 5 1/2" should be available but in 15" (which IMO should be better than 14". ie, closer to og rolling diameter)
