Queensland Hillclimb Championship, 30 May - 1 June, Mt Cotton
Like the subject says, the QHC is coming up - the weekend before the Grafton hillclimb actually.
If you haven't been to Mt Cotton before, it's a great little track for both spectator and competitor - with three uphill sections and two downhill
sections that end in a hard braking section into a hairpin... all easily visible from the spectator seating under the trees. And of course there's
food and drink and you're able to walk around the pits and paddock and get a closer look at the machinery.
http://www.mgccq.org.au/hillclimb.htm
Fri 30 May - practice day 12:00-16:00
Sat 31 May - practice day 09:00 - 16:00
Sun 1 June - race day 08:30 - 16:00
There will be at least one quick beetle running (Greg Turnham in is 2.5 litre type IV powered bug) and one not-so-quick beetle (me in my Jezebel) plus
several Formula Vees and VW powered open wheelers. Maybe some interstaters again too - Abbots, Campbells ???
So who's planning on coming along, either to compete or watch ?

Anybody got some ideas on the cost to spectate??? If you Volksy guys wish to pay for a photographer to attend to get some shots for personal use or
for an article in VWMA let me know as I might be able to organise something.

Yeah BiX - do it !!! You definitely need a log book mate, but cages are not compulsory (yet). Log book isn't really a big deal, and you know I'm
happy to help you get your car sorted - since your road reg just need to be in roadworthy condition and should get through just fine.
Spectating costs I think are $5 for the Saturday and $10 for the Sunday.
"wish to pay for a photographer".... you wanna share some more details on that one Brennden ??? I'm always keen for more photos of my car - I
always take the camera to the track but don't think I've used it yet !!!

I can get a good mate of mine who does the pics for the drag guys who compete in sport compact and also does the pics for the dyno day to come out and
snap away for a day. Obviously i need to check with him first but usually he gets his entry paid for or if they have media passes/accreditiation we
could also organise something that way. check out the latest VWMA for the pics he took from the mini jam in march. I will have a chat with him
sometime today about it and if you can see what is the go as far as media is concerned we can go from there.

Yup - QHC is definitely on - but you already knew that Brennden since we spoke at the track today !!! (sorry, didn't check the PC last nite)
Practice day today - track was a bit wet this morning, but dried out during the afternoon with some reasonable times posted - nothing too great since
all the grip had been washed off. Also no-one really wanting to break their car when the times don't count.
Tomorrow weather is meant to be more of the same - so with some people getting a lot more serious about things should see some good racing !!!

You may have to post the pics in another forum heading.

Been this way since the last 4 or 5 years.
Put them in general business, or dragracing.
Hillclimb is just a dragrace with a couple of curves anyhow?!
Got that new rocket yet?(R3.6)

I'll let him know in case he doesn't see your post Dangerous. His R36 is supposed to be arriving on the 19th june. Will have it at dyno day. Already
plans underway for headers and exhaust and then intake and some tuning. Vw factory figures for 0-100km'hr are 5.5secs so me thinks it would be pretty
quick.
Sorry I didn't get out there today Sides. Wife kinda mucked up the plans with a lunch engagement that "you have to go to" kinda thing. Was not
happy all arvo and kept ringing Northy asking on progress and carnage reports.
I have some pics that i took on saturday as well. i'll add them to Northy's when it's done.
So the big question is who won what?? Did Peter Gumley get his car fixed and win overall??

Hey Corey - some damn nice pics there - love your work !!!
Bummer that you didn't get out today Brennden, but I understand what it can be like...
Bit of a mini wrap-up report thingy - apologies for not being a great wordsmith. Results should be up soonish at http://www.mgccq.org.au
The track today wasn't great - quite a bit more rain overnight, and although it dried out during the day the low temps, yesterday's sump full and
quite a few extra oil spills today meant not a lot of grip. At least 4 instances of cars running wide and up the embankment as a result. Larger number
of breakages than normal too - 4 cars doing gearboxes today in addition to Saturday's breakages !!!
For the Volksy's things were a bit rough today - Heath Campbell was looking good and on for a really quick time in his beetle on a drying track,
until it went onto 3 cylinders on the final uphill with a rocker issue... including poking a hole through the rocker cover near #4. Done for the day,
but it seems not terminal (as in should be fixed for Grafton next weekend). Peter Gumley's supercharged monster also unfortunately out after only 1
or 2 runs - camshaft or timing gears failed apparently, but I didn't get full details.
I didn't have any issues, but just wasn't fast - about 2 seconds off my normal pace. But hey, I had fun and learnt a few things setup tricks. Was
awesome to catch up with a few of the regular runners plus soem inter-staters, as well as meet some of names off of AVD.
Bring on the AHC in November !!!

Well, based on the lash cap from #4 inlet being MIA and the hole in the rocker cover being the right size + shape, the theory is that the lash cap
came off from #4 inlet and found its way to between the #4 exhaust rocker arm and the cover... so when the arm came back there just wasn't clearance.
Heath was going to look into it a bit deeper before Grafton this weekend to make sure nothing else was wrong, but haven't heard anything on it since.

Dam the mechanic, me
Took the car to the TIGHS CAMS Workshop on Monday Morning. The first thing I noticed was the lock nut on #4 Inlet rocker adjuster screw was loose.
This allowed the adjuster to to unscrew, then the pushrod to escape, Lash cap to come off and sudsequently be punched through the aluminium rocker
cover.
Not as bad as I first thought, things like broken springs, floating valves, bent valves and pushrods.
Have tidied up a few bits, aquired a new rocker cover, lask cap. Then belted it around the block in the industrial estate on Monday afternoon.
Ivan Tigh says in his low key style "sounds like a dak dak"
This weekend at Grafton will soon show if I missed anything.

Bloody mechanics!
My mechanic is an idiot too sometimes.
One of my recent efforts is putting the carbs back together and having a bystander who knows nothing about cars, or anything made of metal for that
matter, pointing at the jet holders and saying, you've left those out! Der.
I'm glad you're sorted, being so far away from home and all.
