take the door trim off and you can reach the lock internals and pull the lever to open

so you can assess the door mechanism from there

I have taken off trim, handle mechanism and can feel pullly thingy. It wont budge on the drivers door, neither will outside button. When the passenger door jam I can usually release it from inside (dosn't help when windows closed though)

If you can remove the lock mechanism complete I have a spare or two in my shed somewhere and I'm just up at Tinbeerwah (other side of Tewantin).
Barry
Sorry just reread your post -if the door's jammed shut obviously you wouldn't be able to remove it DUH! Anyway I'll have a squiz at the ones' I have and post something later.

No its not locked. When you lock it the button pushes in and out without obstruction.

Oh - I had something like that with my 70 bug - the bottom bolt holding the back part of the window channel wasn't in properly, and _sometimes_ the channel would shift a bit and find itself between the actuator plate on the door lock mechanism and the trigger thingy from the exterior handle. When the prob happened the exterior trigger thingy basically wouldn't budge, but the interior handle normally worked fine.

That was on a 12V bug, and yeah I know both the lock mechanism and window channels are different on a 63, but possibly something similar is happening ???

We had to open one with a bit of brute force not long ago. It kept jamming up like you are saying. Had a mate pulling and lifting on the door handle while i got in the back with the seats folded forward and kicked the door where the door mechanisim is. Always came open that way when it jammed up.
