Mt Cootha Hillclimb - Up and Down 2009
Next year the Historic Racing Car Club (Qld) is holding a hillclimb up and down the scenic Mt Cootha, with full support from the council and
government. You race up about 1.4klm I think and then a hairpin turn to the right and come back down. We have committed to running the event for five
years.
Generally it will be for the likes of cars that compete at Speed on Tweed so the modern cars dont get much of a chance- but heh I dont particularly
like them anyhows.
From memory it will be in May/ June - we just did the signs and I cant remember but will confirm.
Do any other hillclimb tracks go up and down (yes I know Mt Cotton does, but this will be more like a Targa stage with the lengths, corners and
chicanes involved)
Will post more details soon.

Excellent !!!
Hillclimb seems to be getting more and more popular in Brissie - events at Mt Cotton reach the 110 competitor limit most of the time now - so having
even more events I think is a brilliant idea.
Next year should be awesome - 6 Tighe Cams rounds at Mt Cotton, QHC, Historic Mt Cotton, Historic Noosa, Tighe Cams Noosa and then this Historic at Mt
Cootha it'll be a busy year - bring it on !!!

I like the sound of the timing ... the oval will be very close to the track by then.
How strict is it on the historic Pete? Will the oval get a look in with a 1600cc and BJ IRS or not?
PS. You must let me know when you are going racing again. I would love to come out for a look.

Shhh - usual thing with scrutineering and stuff Marcus - don't ask, don't tell !!!
Seriously though - even if your oval doesn't meet historic, depending on numbers you can get in as an "invited car"... which is basically an old
car that has had modernized components put into it. Datsun 1600's with fuel-injected SR20 Turbo engines can even qualify then !!!

Dates 30-31 May
The dates are the 30-31 May.
As to vehicles eligibility it is a Historic event so vehicles such as the mighty boy than ran at the Leyburn would not likely get a start, as
entertaining as it may be for some.
Yes, you may not need a historic logbook but the more 'period' your car looks the better your chances.
Oh and it is a 750 up and 750 down with great spectator viewing.
Cheers

Was their for the day today. Excellent event with a lot of interesting and fantastic cars.!
Track is interesting enough and the event well run. I am looking forward to putting in my entry form for next years event. There was a Karmann Ghia GT
(that was what it had on the program) with a 1916cc driven by Stuart Everitt. Danny Mischock (2l Escort in improved production 3J and enemy of all
hillclimb beetles) ended up running at 7th fastest outright (200 cars entered) but dropped a few spots with the top 20 shootout not being his fastest
time.

Cootha
Stuart runs a 1916 twin plug Pobjoy in the Ghia and went quite well.. The Top 20 didnt count in the timings, so even if he pulled out a blinder it
wouldnt have mattered... but that thing is a weapon.
I spent the 3 days officialling wishing I had ran the beetle, but wasnt to be. My c/buggy did heaps of laps as an official vehicle if that counts
Maybe Noosa in November

Yeh come on Pete!! The CB looked great.
I couldn't quite catch the commentary during the top 20 to understand the rankings. Well done to the QHRCC for an excellent event.
And Matt ... start the homework because we need some power

Mt Cootha
It is on the same weekend - locked in for the next five years.
There are other similar events like Noosa Hillclimb, Leyburn Sprints, Speed on Tweed, Gatton Street sprints... heaps of events to choose from.
