Fitting a 2 Ltr Box

I've been after a 2 Ltr box for a while now, to go into my IRS rear end (of my Bus) I currently have a 1600 kombi box.
The question is: Are the mounts the same on both gear boxes? or will I have to cut and weld to get the thing to fit?

Cheers.

The front mounts are different, but the 1600 mount will bolt up to the 2ltr, you will need to change the studs over. The 2ltr gearbox has the rear mounting "ears" on top of the bell housing, you may choose not to use these (although I did). The 2ltr gearbox is also 6mm longer, but should not be a problem in your setup. How is your gearbox mounted? or do you have a rear cross mount on your engine?

It will fit with out any trouble.
If you are using the 2 ltr box with its original bellhousing it will bolt straight into a '72 and later kombi.
(You will need to run a 2 ltr flywheel on your engine, Can't do that if its a type 1 engine obviously!)

If you are going to change the bell housing to a 1600 one, then you will need to change the front gearbox mount to the 1600 one, with the longer studs too. and also the input shaft.

Have fun!
