speedo making weird noises

Hi there,
my speedo started making strange noises the other day when I got to about 35mph. I unplugged it and i was wondering what to do? Should i try to oil it up or something?

Yup - cable will be it. Usually the first sign is the needle gets a bit more erratci than usual, then you get a swoosh swoosh swoosh sort of sound from the speedo, then the cable goes "snap" and no speedo.

it's making the swoosh sound i think...
That makes sense though because it only gets it when you are going faster so there would be more load on the cable at that point.

It's gotta be pretty hard to get a new one though right?

Nah, should be pretty easy to get I reckon (at least they were when I last needed one).

If your local VW guy can't get one, the usual online places like cip1 and aircooled.net have them listed for not a lot of money.

.

i pull the cable out of my speedo sometimes and pour a bit of oil down it, its a tight fit and takes a while for the oil to run down but tight is good:lol:usually makes the cable a little quieter
