Headlights in 1974 Kombi
Hello.
I have recently bought a 1974 1800 Kombi to cruise around Australia. While we were in Kakadu The windscreen Shattered and by the time we got to a
caravan park the Headlights stapped working. We are in Katherine now waiting on a windscreen rubber and I want to fix the headlights before we leave
again. The fuse looks good and I have tested the switch with a multimeter and it seems to be working fine. The park lights work and so do the
highbeams. Does anybody have any idea on what the problem could be. Cheers. |

You gotta 'chase' the power from the fuse, switch, wiring harness and find where it's not getting through... then fix it!
Sounds like the relay for H/Low beam. I only have experience with Beetles but I think they are wired similarly - with a relay

Did any water get in since the screen broke??
Could be the switch is cooked.
Works ok with no current but goes high resistance with current??
Does it get hot when you turn it on??

The most likely problem is the relay, which is on the fuse box

Thanks for your help guys. I don't think its the switch because it doesnt get hot when I leave it on. No water has gotten in Although I did find a
rust problem that had to be fixed. I have fixed that in the caravan park in katherine and i will check that relay tomorrow when it is light. Once
again Thank you for your prompt replies. Cheers. |
