not too many golfs there most were probably parked at krispy kremes top job to the guys that put the effort in to run on the day, you dont have to wait till the next nationals to have another run supersprints running most weekends by cams clubs . check out cams web site coming events, pick an event ring the race secretary and enquire most clubs will welcome you with open arms and you can have a run all cars graded fast with fast slower with slower just remember you are racing the clock if you can have a dice with another car well thats a bonus cheers, Rudi

Rod ran quicker times than me

I was flag marshall at pit entry and I had a ball but if your the person that was in rods car with the 18 crossed out I would check the times again because you were visually much quicker in that car cornering speed and down the straight and the event will be on next year because due to this event lots of new members joined club vw motorsport and if you all get behind the club and the event there is no reason for it not to be on

I only have two words: Build Thread!
A year sure seems awfully short when I start to consider the end to end of it all; I've got some koni reds already, but am lacking pretty much everything else that should go on an IRS/Balljoint 'dub to make it stick, go & stop.

cooool, missed that one........evidently link/swingers are a lot of fun, even if your an old hand experienced, winning racer

I think Greg holds a 6 year old class record at Huntley Hillclimb too. In a porsche though. Unless its a different Greg Mackie.

yes this is the same Greg Mackie.....Greg has raced all his life and in his late sixties can show many of us a thing or two. This engine puts out 120bhp at the rear wheels and is running only a low 8.0=1 compression ratio. The brakes are standard 1200 bug with alloy fins attached to mthe brake drums to aid cooling and reduce brake fade. The bug was bought in Canberra about 4 yeras ago wher it sat for over 15 years.Gearbox has a close 3rd and 4th gear with a beefa diff .Greg has run this bug for 3 years running in geardays and shown a clean pairs of heals to much better and more advanced machines. The next moves to improve the bug is to reduce the amount of front wheel tuck-in as the lower trailing arms and king pins love to flex.Think you will see Greg compete a lot more club level motor sport....cheers steve

Hi there,my name is Greg Mackie. My ears have been burning lately, so I thought that I should clear things up. Steve has got it pretty much spot-on, although it was 1961 when I started racing a Beetle - earlier it was dinkies, bikes, billy-carts,etc. The Super-sprint at Wakefield Park was great, however having a Mini with FTD really is NOT ON! This goes back a long way for me, and don't be surprised if you see a Mini-beating Beetle appear very soon!!! Cheers, Greg

I had a drive of the super brick mini yesterday at wakefield. Awesome little beast. Its a 5 speed 1.6 litre go kart. Incredibly easy to drive. Pity it doesnt have more power to go down the straight. I was running against all sorts of differnet cars AMG mercs an M4 BMW, few other shit boxes. Even in my nervous hands I didnt get overtaken. I could sit up the arse of the merc around the whole track (too scared to overtake) until we got to the front straight and he'd blow my doors off.

I had 2 x 20 minute sessions, strangely I drove it heaps better in my first session. Dunno what happened there. Too confident maybe in the second. And then some twit in a turbo fiat blew a hose or something and didnt get off the track. There was oil everywhere. Took well over an hour to clean up and I didnt get another go in the mini. Spent 40 minutes on track driving and near 80 minutes pushing a broom. Not happy.

I then took my dead standard 240,000km lancer on skinny balding street tyres and managed to spin it several times in 4 or 5 laps. I came off embarrassed. Dont know how Jim Richards can do it all the time. It felt like I could walk the track quicker than the lancer could drive. Could almost keep up with one of those Lanos rent a racer things on race tyres though!

^ months to go until the next Nats sprint. There will be 2 honda powered minis there next time...

need a new thread for the 2010 version.

If you are talking road registered car the requirements are basic.
a safe roadworthy car
a fire extinguisher
a cams licence... About $95.
cams affiliated car club membership $40
entry fee ... $120-150, tba
helmet... depends how much your head is worth
a number on the side of your car ... tape, boot polish
blue triangle to mark battery position ... electrical tape
tie your bonnet down to the bumper ... belt, rope

im racing a k&l beetle and have just modified the beam by cutting the ends and welding them on a angle using a protractor to get the angle right. we had no issues with fitment of steering box etc, we welded more tubing arount the welds etc to beef it up and made lower beam braces aswell... seems to work a treat...
