Recommended software to reduce photo file size?
I have an early version of photo ipact. When I reduce a photo to allowable file size its unusable .I see lots of very good and large photos on this
site that do fit into the required sizePlease advise. Thanks

Hi
I use Microsoft Image composer. It comes in most MS office programs as part of FrontPage, I think you can download it for free from MS.
I use it for all the photos on the clubveedub website.
My camera usually takes images between 500 - 600 ks (1280 x 960 pixels)
I resize my images down to 600 - 750 (on the wide side of the rectangle ie 1280 side) pixels. I then use the "save for the web" under the
file menu. This will take a photo down from 500 - 600 kbs to about 60 - 80 kbs. Note, you should set compression @ 20% and make sure you save it as a
jpeg
I have shown this program to many "pro" web developers and they are all amazed out the results this progam gives.

I use a simpler method whereby I reduce my digital camera pics (normally about 600kB) - I open them in paint the click Image -> Stretch/Skew ->
take the percentage (top 2 boxes) down to whatever is required - usually down to 40% or thereabouts. Then save it as a new file name and away I go.
Probably not that technical but gets it done - I have windows xp.

I use both the free Windows XP PowerToy resizer (great tool!), and the Gimp (also free). Both do excellent resizing jobs. The powertoy dohickey is
simplicity itself - right click an image, and choose "Resize".

I use Paint Shop Pro 7.02 and other versions. I find these the easiest (and the majority of the time they are the best) unless you want to go and buy
an expensive (crap) macintosh to do your digital editing on. I could get you a full copy if you want.
