starter bush replacement
Can anyone tell me how to remove the starter bush in the bell houseing while the transmission & engine is still in the car?

Pretty hard to do, but you could try a thread cutting tap, and use a shock puller to remove if it will come out.
you might have to make a instalation pin up to re fit it.
Of course it would be easier to remove the engine.

Ben never tried it, but i think you would need the car on a hoist so you can get a decent go at it.

Sounds good to me,,, I wonder why hes replacing it, the dame things hardly ever wear out.
The only time ive changed one is when i put a 12V starter in a 6V slot.

Hi
I cant remeber what size tap to use, just find a tap that will be large enough to cut a thread in the old bush but not to large that you cant get it
started, wind the tap in and you will feel it run into the motor crankcase, just keep turning and the bush will wind itself up the tap.
To install get an old 10 mm head stud, wind a head nut on so that you leave about 10 mm of thread hanging out, wind some masking tape or insulation
onto the threaded bit pocking out so that the new bush is a snug fit and wont fall off, locate the new bush squarely at the opening in the bell
housing, lightly hit the other of the head stud with a hammer until the bush is seated flush.

I got a new starter, and was told I needed to replace the bush to keep the warranty.
Thanks for the advice, will see how I go.
