KG in MBF ad
has anyone seen the current mbf ads? not sure if they are nsw only...
there's a guy sitting on a doorstep and a girl going off at him and stuffing clothes into the boot of a car - i'm sure it's a karmann
ghia - is it a kg? does that mean she is stuffing clothes into the engine bay?
then the guy says he'll marry her one day... obviously not for her brains!
:bounce
there's a second part to the story which they usually show later in the ad break, or in the next ad break, where the couple is driving off down a
country road with ribbons and 'just married' all over the car, except it is not a kg, looks like a mercedes 190SL

Was wondering when someone would mention that. It's in Brissy also. Definitely looks like a KG. Hope they don't start it with the
'boot' full.:bounce

Yep....certainly is a KG. 60's model tailights, large bumpers and overiders. But heck....I didn't believe it when I saw it - she certainly
was putting clothes into the engine bay!
As an aside....does anyone know how to get their cars into adverts? I know my Cab would love it - me too I suppose with the few bickies it would
bring.
Squiz.....

I thought that it was a KG! i only caught a fleeting glimpse of it though.
she wont have those clothes for long if she piles them in the engine... hope she didnt pay much for them... and why would anyone want to marry such a
dippy bitch that packs her clothes in the engine??!!
or did the people who made that ad really think that no-one would be able to spot the KG?
sorry...off topic rantings.... |

check the end shot of that ad I am sure its a 60's model 190 Merc an easy mix up ...same era same country of manufacture
thats why they are stuffing the boot, the 190's have them....

Please be careful re letting your car get used!
I was asked to lend my Kubel for an air show at Tyabb (vic) about 1985.
They were going to overfly it at low level with a P51, play a recording thru the PA system of machine guns firing & then explode "foo
gas" (ie an LPG explosion like at the Melb casino) near it. They guaranteed no damage would be done. I told them to use a jeep instead- after all
the americans were good at friendly fire incidents.
Seriously, most people who hire their cars usually drive them as well. The advertise-ing companies have trouble grasping the concept that if they
break something, you can't buy a replacement at the local K-Mart.
There are registers of cars & trucks for movie etc use. You may try a well known dealer eg Shannons to see if they can point you in the right
direction.

The car in the ad is a Merc 190. I thought it was a ghia at first.
If you want to see a beautiful ghia coupe, watch the movie "Vertigo" by Alfred Hitchcock. It would have been new then as the the film was
made in 1958 (It is a 57-59 model). There is another ghia in Star Trek 4 the Journey Home for those interested.

That is no Merc in the first part of the add, It's definitley a Ghia getting clothes stuffed into the engine bay.

after seeing the ad a few more times its definitely a kg in the first ad, then a 190sl in the second...
you wonder why they didn't just use the 190 for both ads - maybe it wasn't available on the day, or the tail end didn't suit the camera
angle as well as the kg - as an art director Silver, any thoughts?
i wonder sometimes when watching movies and commercials and the cars used change from scene to scene, or even different camera angles of the same
scene, do they do it intentionally? do they think nobody will notice, or do they have a sense of humour and want to give the trainspotters in the
audience something to argue about?

If you follow all the ads it's implied that a few years has passed between the KG part and the wedding part of the ads...

mmm, i hadn't picked up on that implication
i guess she tried driving off in the kg, all her clothes got ripped and started a fire in the kg engine bay, the car got burnt and they bought the
190sl from the insurance money?
it's amazing how well thought-out the commercial is!
