Computers
mmm I would suggest that the files are not gone merely the refference to them in the file allocation table. Unless she has done something real weird
you should be able to retrieve them without to much hassle. You will need a restore program to do this though.
ANyway it sounds like Rosky has it in hand.

Adam,
She MUST NOT do anything with the PC and that includes starting it up everytime there is a write to the drive the data can be irretreivably lost.
The timing is really bad as I am moving house this weekend.
What we need to do is take the drive out and install it into another PC and boot off a floppy disk I will make for you ( I will email you the disk
image - you make the disk ).
You then scan her disk using the floppy and restore her files TO THE DISK THAT WAS THE ORIGINAL DISK IN THE CURRENT PC. IE not to her disk if you do
restore to her disk it will create a write over the data.
I will do this ASAP (But I am moving) when does she need her files ?

I will do the disk now - you will need a copy of winimage to make a disk from the image (I'll find a link to the trial version).
The trouble is that a lot computer places will charge you and tell you its too late without even looking, anyone who is good enough to do do it will
charge you an astronimcal amount to look and then realistically may not get a result.
This is an extremely expensive piece of software which is traceable to me so I'll have to ask that you delete it after you have finished and not
to distribute it. - I'll take your word for it.

If that fails
If that prog won't do it I can send you some others but they start at about 3mb so it get s a little harder, but they are a little more
powerful.
Things like Easyrecovery Pro and the likes.

mmm
Haven't played with it too much. I use to do a bit of contract data recovery rebuilding FAT tables on the sun ultra boxs when the vector data got
corrupted. Unix is much better to work with than bloody windows.
555BUG is more of a windows guru recoverer if not he seems to have every damn prog under the sun..

Image sent Adam - I made it self extracting so you dont need to use winimage.
My numbers in the mail if you have any probs - just not tonight - I'm going to bed.
Brad - not done anything with Eunics - prefer my OS to have balls (God thats OLD).
Between us all we'll sort him out. :thumb

Depends what format the drive is ... but couldn't you use a program like GetDataBack ... awesome little program ... also Nortons does one too ..
less hass than what you boys are doing ...
If you've got it NTFS formated you'll tend to have more prob's than if its FAT formatted ...
Good Luck :thumb

I restore data on a regular basis - I'm sure there are ways that are less hassle than what "us boys" are doing, but Iv'e been
doing this sort of thing for a number of years and have found that I have had the most succes from using this method.
