can you tell the year by the colour
my beetle's original colour was honey brown, i think it's a 71 super beetle but I'm not sure, can you tell the year from the colour, and if so
what year is my beetle?

honey brown was a 70-72 colour so that doesnt narrow it down much
the build date will be on the compliance plate under the hood on the apron if its a super but also the first couple of numbers from the chassis/VIN
number will reveal what year it is
its a superbug if it has coil over strut front end and the spare tyre lays down flat

I seen that plate there a few times but i never thought of really looking at it.
yep 2/71
i was confused by all the web pages telling me 71 super bugs had two rows of slots on the engine lid and 72 had four,, mine has four. another thing i
was coming across was they where saying 71's didn't have reverse lights and 72's did,, mine doesn't.
but i suppose ya can't argue with a compliance plate.
excellent ,,,,,, thanks for that joel.

Hi
Your engine lid must have been swapped over.
The 71 had a smaller rear window, wiper switch on the dash, 2 spoke steering wheel and funny vents inside near the back window.
