engine is overheating!
hi everybody...
i have a problem with type1 engine...
the engine was a E crankcase single port heads, i replaced those SP with DP heads but i never opened the case halves, the engine is seriously
overheating, i am driving the car for about 10 minutes and the oil light goes on idle and from this point on it's really overheating...
i also upgraded the cooling fan to a doghouse style and replaced the oil cooler twice (!!) i am pretty sure that the cooler is not the problem..
what else should i check?
thank you.

how do u know it is overheating? have you checked how hot the dipstick is after a drive? The oil light problem is related to heat but it could just
be that your engine is tired, that the tolerances inside are too large and you have low oil pressure.
Ok the procedure to see why it is overheating is this:
1. First give it a tuneup, check the ignition timing, carb settings, make sure the manifold gaskets and the sealing to the head and carb is tight.
2. Next check that all the tinware is present, and that there are no gaps in the top half of the tinware to the bottom. The rubber seal around the
back of the engine should not be cracked and should be relatively airtight.
Check to see if anything is stuck in the back of the fan.
If the dipstick is too hot to pull out and hold after a drive then the oil is a bit too hot. This isn't exactly the most accurate measure, an
oil temp gauge is probably a good idea. Although even these aren't all that accurate (short of ones that cost hundreds of dollars). However
they give u a generally rough idea.

Mmmm.... 10 min in winter air isn't really long enough to over heat oil.
As is mentioned above, how do you know it's over heating? The oil light comes on with low oil pressure.

hey, thank you all
it's like that -
all the tinware are present, i think the problem was for a long time, this engine used to be single port induction but it had a broken valve who broke
the piston and did a hell lot of mess, so i replaced the piston with pop out style piston and DP heads, i think the problem was there before and
that's what cause the exhaust valve to break down, i do not have the rubber on the engine compartment - how bad is that??
i don't think the main bearings are tired because there's barely any end play while pushing the pulley forth and back...
the dipstick is H-O-T there's no way to hold it after 15 min. of driving...
a few question -
how much oil pressure should be when the engine is cold using 40SAE oil (psi or BAR please)...?
i am running a 30PICT? carb on a 1300cc engine, could that be the problem (too lean mixture)?
an engine flush can solve the problem? and how do i know if i have (the engine! ) any blocked internal oil passages and what r the influences (low oil pressure) ?
thank you all for your help...

Had the same overheating prob, enough to pull the head bolts. Turned out to be leaking manifolds, which makes it run lean, which then overheats, and
ping, there goes the next pay check......2c worth:cry |
