Seat rail width for a 62

G'day, hoping someone can help me. Have a 62 beetle, it needed a new floor section so I purchased a new one, as you do, measured everything except the width of the seat rails. Now I find they are about 20mm or so wider than the originals and hence seat no no fit anymore. What has happened? I have a 74 wreck as well but the rails on it look a little more complex. Would those seats fit perhaps? Any ideas appreciated. Cheers.

no the seats from the 74 wont fit the early chassis seat rails

What happened to the old seat rails re weld them into place and keep the origional seats

I have the original frame that the original seats would have sat on, but the seats arent original. The original seat slides on the old floor section are not worth having just due to rust. I might have to remove one of the the slides on the new section and re weld that you think?
Could you/someone measure the distance between the slides on their original seats as a comparison so I can make sure that my old floor section has not been modified because I would prefer not hack up my new floor. Cheers.
