what is the fuel capacity in a 74 L beetle (1300)

when full my guage only reads half full is there a way to fix this. eg do I fill up to brim then adjust guage to full or empty tank and make sure guage reads zoro ??

i must fix before valla or i will have a crap drive up with all the worry

somwthing like 40 litres

i have had several L's and they all have weird gauges. It could be to do with the breather system cutting out the fill system or it could be the gauge or the sender.
To fix you would have to
a) check the breather pipes are clear and not kinked
b) change the sender
c) change the speedo

Cruising you should get 300km's easy

just a thought. I didn't think L bugs came in 1300cc. that they still sold a torsion bar front when they were still selling a L bug. of this is the case, may a L bug sender (eg for the flat tank) have been put into a vertical tank(eg for a torsion front end)?
