Changing popout frame to glass rubber and removing the glass?
Hi
Has anyone ever changed the rubber between the glass and frame on late popouts?
The glass on my sons 1303 is etched from acid rain or something, I bought these on Ebay USA.
I thought that if I can get the glass out of the frame I could get the glass polished or at least swap them side 2 side. Ive tried everything I have
to remove the etching.

Dont do it
I have heard you will NEVER get the frame back on properly
When i got mine from VVDS (2nd hand) they gave me spare rubbers.
I asked a few peoples about changing these just because i had the rubber and i have not heard one person saying that it is an easy job - it never
lines up again
In fact they alled warned me against it
As for the glass, have you tried tooth paste??
Mine had some marks and tooth pasted got most of it off

is the mess on top of the glass? or dug into the glass?
if on top, use what the pro's use for scrappin off tint glue etc... a razor (talk to the paint guys at a hardware store, they got em)
Even wire wool. no kiddin, it won't scratch. (0000 grit). worked even a charm for acrylic paint overspray on a friends windscreen. best stuff eva.
even worked for clear plastic quarter lights.

yes it can be done I not only changed the u shaped rubber but also the glass I had some new ones water jet cut .but yes it was very difficult as the
new glass was 5mm thick and the original was 3/16, place the rubber on the glass and mark it oreatation with a marker pen coat every thing in
armourall and start working it around , you may have to trim the rubber if it flips to the side but this is easier having to starting again.the
aluminiun frame will need to be cold set "BENT" and then re shaped, use your hands , knees , stomach to hold the frame as you work around the glass.
BUT I paid $300 for the windows on ebay and $25 for the new rubber and $220 to have the glass cut when I could have bought new ones from VVD for under
$500 ,the only thing with mine is thay are German. Lots of luck.

Hi
Tried toothpaste last night, will try some steel wool today. Its just along the lower edge of the window, above the trim.
ph, that was cheap for the windows, I was quoted $150 each to make glass wind up windows for a late bug.
Got some genuine VW Mexico ones from USA for 29.95USD + post. VVDS didn't have them but put me onto a guy who has made them for them in past
