twin turbo 091 starter ??s
im doing a twin turbo subie in my bug with 091 transmission. Have a slight problem with the 091 starter not fitting right due to the turbo flange. I
grinded a little off the flange that poked out but didn't solve the issue. other than the high torque starter thats imo high $$ anybody else ran into
this problem and what did you do about it?

I had to put a hight torque on mine so that i could fit the exchaust that went over the gearbox. Not only is it a lot smaller and lighter than the VW
ones, it turns the motor over with ease. You can get them for about $300, which isn't much in the scheme of a TT suby conversion.

yeah ratbug i was afraid i was going have to end up going with high torque starter, seems another twin turbo guy had to use one for that purpose. i
dont have a problem with the exhaust on mine but i did cut pipe halfway and reweld it.
pete the auto kombi starter is it smaller ? or same size just longer? i need it to be smaller in diameter..

Auto IMO is just longer (not all of them tho) and I have not been impressed with the Hitorque starters I've installed. I have seen the new Cranky
kits and they adapt the Subi starter, I would recommend going that way. They are available thru Custom Vee Dub (07)3356 4356 or on line.

found something else like crankykits but using a different starter.. think im going this route... it uses a vw tdi turbo diesel starter bosch. Been
talking to the guy and the starter is turned on a 45 degree angle.. which will fit perfect and will have alot of room between the solenoid n the turbo
and also room between intercooler in its stock place n the starter.
http://www.westyventures.com/parts.html
its halfway down the page
alot cheaper also.. but if i'd kept my subie starter id go with crankykits. i had sold the subie starter when i sold the subie tranny.
