Can you put a flat motor into L BUG

Hi , We are looking at buying a flat (pancake) motor. It has been used for a pump and has done 200 driving hours. Can you convert it by changine the tinware and fan shoud or is there other things needed to fit it.

depends what pancake motor it is
if its type3 then yea the tinware can be swapped over and a few other little differences but nothing major

but if its a kombi engine then its alot more expensive but can be converted to upright to fit a bug

type 3 block doesn't have the same dip stick hole as the bug ones
it has the 2 bolt for flange the front corner of the sump.
so you'd probably have to make up your own from spare parts or buy one if there's any

actually i found a site
http://www.mofoco.com/item.php?item_id=349

that was my only problem anyway...
and the oil cooler upright adaptor. but that was easy to find
and ur engine no. will be covered up since for type 3 it's on top

dipstick is easy got around with a conversion one
and the other issue is type3 blocks dont have a oil pressure sender port

but you can get around that by using the type3 oil cooler and clearanceing the doghouse so the original switch fits

yea that works fine if your pulling the block down or have it apart but i think dylans after a running motor to put in and drive
you dont want any shavings in the galleries

So, what happens when you go to the RTA to do the paperwork for changing engine No.? Usually they will want to visually inspect the new number.

Regards,

Matt.

Thanks for the info guys but looks like we won't be buying the pancake motor anyway. Also that site you mentioned jshepard64 i know the buisness it's mofoco and they sell new long block and turn key motors you can get a 1776 from amierica $2500 AUS , Sounds pretty good.

I googled and pick the nearest one. I am unaware its content other than the picture

would you get away with punching in the engine number?? or would you get in trouble for that even if it's the same number?
