What year is it
Hi,
I have just purchaced an early Bug to fix up and give to my daughter. I would like to know the actual year the car was manufactured. previous owner
said 62 or 63 !!. The vin# is 195026567. There is no Australian compliance plate. Well not that I can find anyway. Did find some rust!
I'm sure someone here can help.
Thanks.
I've got a 73 bay that I will hopefully get a start on once I finish this bug, Owned a splitty when I first got my licence. many many years ago
cost me $800.00 Wish I still had that now.$$$$

Hi,
Thanks for that. Does that explain why there is no Aussie comliance plate on the bug.
I'm sure the body is original to this chassis, but is there a way of confirming this ? ie changes to body or fittings etc.
Thanks
John.

Hi John
there should be a plate under the bonnet..
behind the spare wheel...
they didn't use compliance plates back then...
the chassis and engine number were checked.... and still are..
cheers

Thanks Lee,
I have looked every where, that was the first place I looked. I hope this wont be a problem when I go to get it registered.
I'm also replacing the old engine (stuffed) with a 1600 twin port. do you think this will be an issue ? I know I have to clearance the bell housing
to suit the flywheel.
Thanks,
John.

Hi
Depending on the people who register the car, you should have front disk brakes if your fitting a motor that size.
You need to fill in your location on your profile so that advice can be offered suitable to where you live.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the reply.
Actually didn't think about that (disc brakes)! Yeah I think if my little girl is going to drive it, then it "must" be a safe as I can make it.
Would adapting disk brakes be a straight forward change out set up , or is it more involved ?
Any advise on how to and what to do etc would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
John.
