1300 to 1600

My 1600 beetle spun a bearing, crank and rod stuffed. I have bought a 1300 motor and after reading tech articles figure I can use my twin port heads, barrels and pistons on the 1300 block. I will also use the 1600 fan and barrell tin ware. Does any one know if I 1600 dog house oil cooler adapter will fit the single relief 1300 block? I hope it will be a simmple change over ???

Pistons

In my haste to strip the engine I forgot to mark the pistons. Is there way to tell which is the front? Also I was reading another tech article further on and it said to use copper gasket spray on the head surface to help seal the barrells as it aided in carbon build up, any ideas. Thanks

The piston has an arrow on the top that points to the flywheel.
